Who Is Going To Win 2016 World Series

Favorites To Win World Series

*Odds as of October 2nd, according to TopBet

1) Chicago Cubs (+240)

The Cubs have been a wrecking machine most of this season, having held the best record in baseball most of the year and being the first team to clinch their division. The odds-on favorite to win the World Series, Chicago still has the dark cloud of history looming over its shoulders. Having not won a title since 1908, Cubs fans have been waiting with bated breath for something bad to happen to their beloved Cubbies. However, this might not be the case as Chicago secured a winning record against the Dodgers (4-3) and Nationals (5-2) during the regular season. Chicago also is a combined 15-5 against the American League so the Cubs are firmly entrenched as the favorites.

As of September 26th, they were 57-24 at home so any team venturing into Wrigley Field is going to have its hands full.

Pick: Cubs To Win World Series (+240)

2) Washington Nationals (+750)

One of the hottest picks to end the year with a World Series crown, the Nationals will have the difficult path of getting through the Cubs and Dodgers through the NL playoffs. Starting pitcher Max Scherzer nearly notched 20 wins this season, and is the entrenched ace of the staff. The Nats were able to win their division this season by notching winning records against the Braves, Phillies and Mets.

The Nationals struggled against the Cubs (2-5) and Dodgers (1-5) this season and will have to prove they can overcome their struggles against their foes in the postseason.

3) Texas Rangers (+650)

The Al Central champions and No. 1 seed, Texas will have a considerably easier path to the World Series than their NL counterparts. The Rangers have been competitive with the Red Sox (3-3) and did well against the Indians (5-2) which are the other predicted favorites in the AL race. The loss of All -Star Prince Fielder will hurt Texas' World Series chances, but it might also propel the team to win a title for their retired teammate. Texas will have to rely on their pitching trio of Cole Hamels, Colby Lewis and Yu Darvish to get them past their AL foes.

Keep an eye out for new addition Jonathan Lucroy, who joined the Rangers during mid-season, as he could be an X-factor for the Rangers to take down the other World Series contenders. The Rangers have their work cut out for them, but a World Series triumph is within their grasp.

Pick: Rangers To Lose ALCS

4) Boston Red Sox (+550)

The Red Sox are considered by some to be the front runner to represent the AL come the end of the October. Boston has been propelled this season by the swan song of David Ortiz, but also the All Star level play of 23-year old Mookie Betts.

The outfielder has been on a tear in September and is part of a young talented core that includes outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. and shortstop Xander Bogaerts. Boston has also done well against the other playoff contenders this year with a 4-2 winning mark against Cleveland, their first round match-up. Boston split their series against the Blue Jays and Rangers and dominated games against the NL with a 14-6 mark.

Pick: Red Sox To Win ALCS But Lose World Series To Cubs

5) Los Angeles Dodgers (+750)

The Dodgers crushed the Nationals this season to the tune of a 5-1 record, but were mediocre against the Giants (11-8) and Cubs (3-4). If Los Angeles is going to make a run in the postseason, All-Stars Yasiel Puig and Corey Seager will need to ramp up their play. Additionally, pitcher Clayton Kershaw can't do it all by himself, so the depth of L.A. will be tested early and often.

Pick: Dodgers To Lose In NLCS

Best of the rest:

-Cleveland Indians (+750)

-New York Mets (+1200)

-Toronto Blue Jays (+1200)

-San Francisco Giants (+1600)
