2023 Ally 400 Picks: Kyle Larson, Martin Truex Jr Among The Favorites
  • What: Ally 400 - NASCAR Cup Series
  • Where: Nashville Superspeedway
  • When: Sun, June 25th, 7 PM ET

After a weekend off, the NASCAR Cup Series regular-season continues on Sunday in the Music City with the Ally 400, which takes place at the Nashville Superspeedway. Martin Truex Jr comes in with momentum, having won the last race in Sonoma. He is also one of the favorites here with +600 odds, but Kyle Larson sits just above him at +400. Among the other frontrunners in the sportsbooks are Denny Hamlin (+750), Kyle Busch (+800), Chase Elliott (+800), William Byron (+900), and Ryan Blaney (+900). The reigning champion at Nashville is Elliott, while Larson won the inaugural race in 2021, hence why his odds are so short. Keep reading for the Ally 400 picks.

Race Info

Until 2021, it was 27 years since Nashville had a NASCAR event. This is a concrete surface that totals 400 miles in total, with three stages consisting of 90, 95, and 115 laps. Since this was a popular race in 2022 under the lights, it will be held in the evening once again. Hendrick Motorsports has won both races heading into Sunday, with Larson and Elliott the only ones with titles at Nashville.

Race Preview

Kyle Larson (+550)

Larson was pretty dominant in 21' here, leading for all but 36 laps en route to a first-place finish. In 2022, he was fourth. That alone is enough evidence to Larson finishing in a respectable spot on Sunday. He's also in really good form as of late, winning the All-Star Race, locking down fourth at World Wide Technology, and eighth at Sonoma. All signs point to Larson certainly being in the mix to win in Nashville.

Martin Truex Jr (+600)

Truex Jr is the man with a target on his back right now as he sits in first place in the Cup Series standings, just 13 points above William Byron. In 16 starts in 2023, he has two victories, nine top 10s, and seven top fives. While he's finished in 22nd in both Nashville races, he actually led for 82 laps in 22' and due to a bad pit call, fell out of contention. Truex was undoubtedly in the mix before that, though. He does head into this event with no shortage of confidence too, winning Sonoma, finishing fifth the week before, and earning a third-place finish at Charlotte. Considering how consistent Truex Jr tends to be, he's certainly worth a look here.

William Byron (+850)

Although Byron is second, he's arguably the best driver on the Cup Series circuit in 2023. The Chevrolet star has led for 717 laps in total, which is more than anyone else. His three wins are also tied for the most in NASCAR with Kyle Busch. Aside from that, Byron has finished top five on seven occasions and landed in the top 10 nine times. When it comes to Nashville, he was just 35th last year but did finish third in 2021. Byron also tends to drive well on intermediate tracks, finishing within the top-10 in every single one. Keep an eye on Byron.

Denny Hamlin (+750)

Hamlin isn't having the best campaign. He's in eighth place in the table, winning just once at Kansas. Since then, in a span of five races, he's only finished above 12th once. That happened when Hamlin was second at World Wide Technology. He's been a mixed bag at Nashville, finishing sixth in 2022 and 21st in 2021. Hard to know what we'll get from Hamlin on the weekend.

Kyle Busch (+800)

There's a history of success for Busch in Nashville, but those came in the Xfinity Series and Truck Series. When it comes to the Cup Series, he was 11th and 21st here. At Dover, which is a very similar track, Busch was 21st. That being said, Busch is in solid form as of late, finishing within the top seven in four of his previous five outings.

Chase Elliott (+800)

An early season injury really halted Chase Elliott's production. Arguably the best driver on the circuit in 2022, it's been a much different story for the 2021 Nashville winner. He's way down in 27th in the standings with only 247 points and has yet to win a race. In fact, Elliott has only three top-five finishes. He was fifth in Sonoma though and 11th at Dover, which is a promising sign.

Ally 400 Picks

There are a few good bets here. First, we'll go with Truex Jr to finish top-five. A no-brainer. Also, take Larson to finish top 10. For the winner, I'm liking Byron to stay hot.
