Toyota Owners 400 Picks: William Byron, Kyle Larson Among Favorites
  • What: Toyota Owners 400
  • When: Sunday, March 31st
  • Where: Richmond Raceway, VA

The NASCAR Cup Series heads to Richmond, Virginia on Sunday afternoon for the 2024 Toyota Owners 400. The race is expected to begin around 7 PM ET. William Byron is coming off a win at COTA and that's propelled him to one of the frontrunners for this event at +500 odds. Kyle Larson isn't far behind at +550 though while Denny Hamlin (+600), Christopher Bell (+700), Ryan Blaney (+1000), and Martin Truex Jr (+1000) are also expected to be in the mix. Larson is the defending champ in the Richmond spring race, therefore he'll have some confidence here. Continue reading for the Toyota Owners 400 picks.

The Toyota Owners 400 is a 400-lap race that has been around since 1953. The first stage has 80 laps, while stage two has 155 and stage three has 165. Joe Gibbs has the most wins of any team at this event, while Chevrolet's 23 victories are the best of any manufacturer in the Cup Series. You can understand why Byron and Larson are among the favorites.

William Byron (+500)

Byron is off to a fantastic start this season. While he's sixth in the Cup Series standings, he's won a circuit-best two races while also notching three top-10s and two top-fives. However, Richmond isn't exactly a place he's had a ton of success, only finishing in the top-10 twice in his last 11 starts. That being said, he's led his fair share of laps on this track in recent memory. Perhaps we'll see another impressive finish after he took home top spot at the Circuit of the Americas last weekend.

Kyle Larson (+550)

Larson is just a tad above Byron in the standings, which is hard to understand considering he has just two top-10s in seven starts. But, it has to do with his 224 laps led, which is second in the Cup Series behind only Hamlin. As previously mentioned, Larson is the reigning champ at Richmond and he also won another time here. Overall though, Richmond isn't a place where he's the most consistent in his Cup Series career. Larson was 17th last weekend at COTA and fifth the week before at Bristol.

Denny Hamlin (+600)

Hamlin has six starts this season, winning once while notching one top-five and two top-10s. That's landed him in fourth place in the standings with a Cup Series-best 275 laps led. Hamlin just won at Bristol two weeks ago and was second at the Richmond summer race a year ago. He also came out victorious in the 2022 spring race and was runner-up in both 2021 events. Hamlin feels like a serious contender on Sunday to win given his track record. He's one to watch.

Christopher Bell (+700)

You'll see that Bell also has the best odds of the lot at other sportsbooks not named BetOnline. There's a reason for that. He's finished within the top-six at Richmond in nine of his last 12 appearances here, which is impressive in itself. While some of those starts were in the Xfinity series, it's still something to take note of. Bell was fourth in the spring race a year ago. The Toyota driver is seventh in the standings at the moment, winning at Phoenix and finishing as runner-up behind Byron at COTA.

Ryan Blaney (+1000)

Blaney is one to fade on Sunday. He's terrible at Richmond, never finishing within the top five in his Cup Series career. In 2023, he was 26th and 14th in the two Richmond races. Blaney is third in the standings with three top-fives and three top-10s. He's yet to win a race this season and it's unlikely to happen at Richmond.

Martin Truex Jr (+1000)

Truex Jr tends to perform well at Richmond. He's won three times here and also finished as a runner-up. Truex Jr has finished top-seven in nine of his last 10 appearances at Richmond. In other words, Truex Jr also turns up and shows up in Virginia. He nearly won last spring before a tire problem. Truex Jr leads the Cup Series right now with 220 points but he's still searching for his first victory of the campaign.

Toyota Owners 400 Picks

Out of all these names, I like Denny Hamlin to come out and find some more success in Richmond. Take him to grab his second victory of the season on Sunday.
