Arsenal beat Spurs at the Emirates in October, and Mikel Arteta’s team is a good bet to do the double over its neighbors on Sunday.

Tottenham Struggling to Stay in Touch

In Antonio Conte's first full campaign at Tottenham, fans were anticipating an improvement on the top-four finish last season, but going into this derby, Tottenham is struggling to stay in touch with the Premier League leaders.

Spurs had a strong start, taking seven wins from the first ten games, but it began to falter ahead of the World Cup break, losing three from five and since the Premier League season resumed, Tottenham has also lost to Aston Villa and dropped two points against Brentford.

The team has regained some ground with a big win over Crystal Palace and is into the fourth round of the FA Cup after a victory over Portsmouth, but both manager and club are under pressure from supporters who feel that drastic action is required in the transfer window.

Tottenham is in fifth place ahead of this game but is 11 points behind Arsenal, having also played a game more. With two games against Manchester City coming up in the next three weeks, Conte knows that his team cannot afford to fall further behind.

Arsenal Continues to Impress

After many months of disappointing results, Mikel Arteta has transformed Arsenal into a legitimate title challenger, playing an exhilarating brand of offensive football that taps into the club's young talent.

Arsenal has continued to impress at the top of the Premier League and has suffered only one loss all season so far. The World Cup break presented a challenge, but victories over West Ham and Brighton, made sure that the league momentum was maintained and on Monday, Arteta's team easily defeated lower league competition to advance to the FA Cup fourth round against Manchester City.

The two league contests versus the defending champions on February 11 and April 26 may be crucial in determining the Premier League's ultimate fate. Still, another win against Arsenal’s old rivals here would indicate that the Gunners’ challenge is a serious one.

Premier League Betting Head to Head

English football is full of rivalries, some of which go back over a hundred years, and the Arsenal versus Tottenham animosity is one of the oldest.

The head-to-head record goes back to 1896 when Tottenham played against Woolwich Arsenal for the first time. At that point, Arsenal was based in the south of the capital, but in 1913 it moved to North London, sharing the same part of the city as Tottenham, and the rivalry intensified.

The Gunners have the lead in terms of all-time wins, leading Tottenham by 85 to 67, while there have been 54 drawn games between the two teams since 1896.

Both teams have enjoyed spells of dominance in this rivalry, but the most recent games have been won by the home team. That was the case in both of last year’s Premier League derbies, and that continued into this season as Arsenal won 3-1 at the Emirates back in October.

Premier League Betting Team News

There may be some better team news for Antonio Conte this week after a period when he has been without some of his most important players. The mini-injury crisis meant that he had to play Harry Kane and Son Heung-min against Portsmouth, and both are likely to feature again here.

Lucas Moura, Richarlison, and Rodrigo Bentancur are likely to be out for this one, although there is a possibility that one or both of Yves Bissouma and Dejan Kulusevski may be fit to play.

For Arsenal, there are fewer injury worries. Bukayo Saka suffered an injury against Oxford during Monday’s FA Cup game, but that is not considered to be a serious issue.

The Gunners will still be without Reiss Nelson and Gabriel Jesus, but Eddie Nketiah – who scored twice on Monday – has proven to be an excellent replacement for the Brazilian, and otherwise, the team will be at full strength, including a possible start for Emile Smith Rowe who came on against Oxford.

Premier League Match Betting Pick

Tottenham’s additional two days of rest ahead of this game will help, but the gap in talent and confidence between the two teams is as wide as it has been for many seasons, and I can’t see Tottenham closing it here, particularly without Richarlison.

The Gunners are better in all departments, and it could be argued that Arteta’s team should be a shorter price for this one. I expect a high-scoring and entertaining game, but Arsenal is the clear value pick in the match betting market.
