After putting up six goals in their bout with Iran, the Three Lions will look to continue their offensive onslaught on Friday, and Kane will be eager to get on the scoresheet himself. Two goals against a USA team that looked nervy when pressured by Wales doesn't feel like a difficult task for England coming off of a six-goal outing.
This is a game England should dominate from start to finish. While the Americans showed signs of their potential against Wales, they struggled when under pressure, something England will surely look to take advantage of. Because of that, I am anticipating England to push forward throughout the full 90 minutes and score in both halves against the USA. While the USA will surely be disappointed by its draw vs. Wales, there were plenty of positives to take away. The goal from Timothy Weah was a thing of beauty, well crafted out of the midfield and set up by a pristine assist from Christian Pulisic. That goal should have the team feeling confident about their ability to set themselves up in the attacking third. While it was the only goal they managed against Wales, they had a handful of good looks on goal, including a shot that hit the post.
All things considered, the USMNT was a bit unlucky to have only scored once, though they didn't always put their best foot forward in the attacking third. After surrendering two goals against Iran, England's defense proved it can be penetrated, and the USMNT will be looking to do just that after a disappointing result against Wales. The USA cannot afford to sit back and play defensive considering there's a strong chance advancement from the group will be decided by goal differential.
While they will certainly have to be at their best defensively, the USMNT shouldn't be parking the bus for 90 minutes in this game, even if manager Gregg Berhalter's gut is telling him to. With so much potentially riding on the USA's goal differential in the group stages, failing to get one past England would be a disappointment, and Berhalter knows this.
