As things stand, Fury vs Usyk is on. But Oleksandr Usyk’s promoter Alex Krassyuk, has speculated on whether Fury will pull out and is already quoted as saying that the Ukrainian has a replacement lined up if the Brit does delay again.

This could all be mind games, and regardless, it won’t have any effect on Joe Cordina vs. Anthony Cacace taking place. Their showdown is on, no matter who fights in the main event.

Also fighting in May is Canelo Álvarez. He is putting his WBC, WBA, IBF, and WBO super middleweight belts on the line against the unbeaten Jaime Munguía. You can read more about this fight on our Álvarez vs. Munguía betting picks and predictions post.

Joe Cordina Career Breakdown

Joe Cordina has a professional boxing record of 17-0. The 32-year-old Welshman is a two-time super featherweight world title holder, having previously been stripped of the title after being unable to defend it due to a hand injury.

Cordina won the title against Kenichi Ogawa in June 2022. He was scheduled to defend the belt against Shavkat Rakhimov in November 2022 but had to pull out. Rakhimov won the vacant belt by defeating Zelfa Barrett, but in his first defense, Rakhimov lost the belt to Cordina on a split decision in April 2023.

Cortina has since defended the belt once, defeating Edward Vazquez by majority decision in November 2023.

The Welshman has won eight of his seventeen fights by decision, with nine knockouts. He is regarded as more of a boxer than a big hitter, possessing blistering hand speed and good ring IQ. And coming from Wales, he has long been compared to compatriot Joe Calzaghe who possessed similar skills.

Anthony Cacace Career Breakdown

Anthony Cacase has a 21-1 record since he turned pro. His one defeat came at the hands of Martin Ward back in 2017, when the two fought for the British and also vacant Commonwealth super-featherweight titles.

Seven of Cacase’s 21 wins have come by KO, with 14 going to the scorecards. The 35-year-old Irishman is on a six-fight winning streak, but notably, all six wins have gone the distance.

Like Cordina, Cacase is more of a boxer than a brawler. He can punch. But as his career record shows, he is more likely to win fights on the scorecards, than with a big punch.

Joe Cordina vs. Anthony Cacace Picks and Predictions

The fight against Cordina will be the first time Cacase has fought for a world title. He has had to wait a long time to get his shot, and he will be determined to make the most of his chance, especially given the setting for the fight - on the Fury vs Usyk undercard.

But we feel it will be too much for Cacace. He has no record of fighting on such big stages as this. He is also an inferior boxer to the Welsh champion, and although he can cause a shock, the occasion may prove to be too much.

We say Joe Cordina will win and retain his belt. And for our betting pick, we are going for the Welshman to win inside the distance at +200. We say Cordina wears down Cacace and stops him in the latter rounds.
