2023 La Vuelta Preview

Let's start our preview of La Vuelta with who's even racing. To no one’s surprise, all the “big guns” are in the field for La Vuelta. It’s a Grand Tour event so we wouldn’t expect anting less. But make no mistake about it, the usual suspects are the ones to look out for. That includes three-time Vuelta winner PrimoĆŸ Roglič, the Tour de France winner Jonas Vingegaard, and even Remco Evenepoel, the defending champion of this event. Those three lead the latest Vuelta betting odds right now by a fair margin. Here, have a look-see:

Being as this is a Grand Tour, it’s a usual 21-stage event carried out over 23 days (so only two days of rest). La Vuelta begins in Barcelona. From there, riders ascend up to the Pyrenees followed by Andorra. It’s more climbing until it gets to the Tourmalet and the Angliru — which is where things get really testy. It all ends with a run to Madrid in the finale.

The mountains really define La Vuelta, one of the hardest races you’ll find. The first taste of a mountain stage comes early too with Stage 3 in Arsinal. But all in all, there will be nine summit finishes during the event. The aforementioned Col du Tourmalet on stage 13 is the one to keep close tabs on. It’s the third appearance of Tourmalet in two months for riders.

As you can probably assume, sprinting won’t serve competitors much good in this event. Only stages 7, 12, and 19 are catered to speedsters. So when making betting picks, put almost your whole stock on who excels in hilly races. That’s all that really matters with La Vuelta.

Best Bets To Win La Vuelta

We will be making two separate picks on La Vuelta winner, and we encourage you to do the same. Disaster can strike quite easily in cycling. One crash or illness is all it takes to go from first to sidelined. As a bettor, you have to account for that and not go “all in” on a single rider. With that in mind, here’s who we’re betting on to win in Spain:

“Safe” Betting Pick

Per usual, Vingegaard and Roglic are the betting co-favorites at super close odds. Because of those lines, bettors can really only pick one to win if they want to remain profitable. Taking both would cancel out any winning gains.

Yes, you almost have to take one of ‘em in this spot. Vingegaard won the Tour de France a second year in a row, while Roglic took the other Grand Tour event, the Giro d’Italia. Out of the two, who's the better choice to win La Vuelta?

Our gut is going with Proglic based on his track record at this event. Winning La Buelta three times is no fluke. Rather, it’s a clear sign Proglic prefers this Grand Tour to the other two. That’s more than enough reason to swing our vote in his favor.

Darkhorse Betting Pick

Alright, it’s almost silly to call the third-favored rider, Evenepoel, a “darkhorse.” But it really does feel that way given how much mindshare both Proglic and Vingegaard eat up. Evenepoel, the defending La Vuelta champ, screams value to us at +350 odds.

One major reason we like Evenepoel is because he should be less worn out. He skipped out the Tour de France entirely, and also had his run at Giro d’Italia cut short due to a positive COVID test. Whereas much of his competition is running on fumes this late in the season, we anticipate Evenepoel to be in peak form. That could push him toward the yellow jersey.

How To Watch La Vuelta?

If you’re in the United States, the easiest way to watch La Vuelta is through the Peacock app. All 21 stages will be aired live on the streaming platform. TV coverage will also be provided by NBC and its family of networks, but these will jump around by the day. Peacock is the only place where everything can be found together.

Race fans will have to rise early to catch this event too. With a six to nine four time-zone difference between Spain and the United States, that’s just the norm with this sport. Though, Peacock will have replays available if that’s more convenient than live viewing.

How To Bet On La Vuelta?

If you’ve read this far, then you’re almost surely ready to bet on La Vuelta. Now you just have to do the damn thing. One of the sportsbooks featured in the table will help you do just that. Any type of bet on the La Veulta — from props to the race winner wager — will be available for betting on these sites. All at bettor-friendly prices too.

One last thing before we let you go: leveraging a promotional offer could make your Vuelta betting completely free of cost. These deals are worth hundreds to thousands of bucks in free play, all just for depositing money into one of the sites. That’s more than enough money to fund your cycling betting for the next month or so.
