Back Lando Norris for another podium finish after McLaren car upgardes

The latest stop-off point on the European leg of the Formula 1 season is Mogyoród for the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix. Max Verstappen is favored to win the race and has now won the last six races. In our latest Formula 1 betting picks we look ahead to the race and tell you if anyone can break the Dutchman’s winning streak.

  • What; 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix - Round 12
  • Where; Hungaroring, Mogyoród, Hungary
  • When; Sunday, July 23rd, 2023
  • Time; 9 am ET
  • Laps; 70
  • Race Length; 306.630 km

As a result of Verstappen’s six-race winning streak, he now has a 99-point lead at the top of the 2023 Drivers Championship. The Red Bull driver has 255 points, with his closest rival being his teammate Sergio Perez, who sits on 156 points.

Perez is fighting a battle for second place in the Drivers Championship. Contesting the second spot on the podium are Fernando Alonso (137 points) and Lewis Hamilton (121). No other driver on the grid is yet to reach three figures in the standings.

The battle for second place in the Drivers Championship has certainly livened up the betting to win the World Championship without Max Verstappen. Having once been the -1000 betting favorite, Sergio Perez is now just -225. His closest rivals are Lewis Hamilton at +300, and Fernando Alonso at +500. We recommend taking Alonso at +500.

2023 Hungarian Grand Prix Winner Betting

The best Formula 1 online betting sites aren’t giving us anything again this week. They make double-world champion Max Verstappen their favorite to win the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix at odds of -280.

Following Verstappen is his teammate Sergio Perez at +1000, with Fernando Alonso at +1200 and Lewis Hamilton at +1400, making up the leading four drivers in the betting.

In the previous race, the British Grand Prix, Perez was just +650. So this weekend the leading F1 betting sites believe Perez is less of a threat than he was at Silverstone.

Another change in the betting this weekend sees Lando Norris in the group of drivers competing for a podium place. Norris is +1600 to win the Hungarian Grand Prix.

After recent good performances, Norris now leads Charles Leclerc (+1800), Carlos Sainz (+2200), and George Russell (+2800) in the latest betting.

Verstappen to win again?

We can’t just keep backing Max Verstappen to win every week at odds like -280 or -300. But he has won the last six Grand Prix races, and eight in total this season. And along with the two races won by Sergio Perez, Red Bull has won all ten races in the 2023 F1 season.

They are dominating, But is it possible for them to win every race this season? Maybe. But it will be difficult. Even when Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost dominated the sport in 1988, they couldn’t sweep the season in their McLarens. The multi-world champion duo won 15 of the 16 races.

While in more recent times, Mercedes dominated the 2016 season. But they fell short of winning every race, with Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg winning 19 of the 21 races.

It is difficult to sweep the season. But at the moment, it looks impossible to see Verstappen not winning every race. But one week he will fall short. Of that, there can be no doubt.

Improving McLaren

A team moving in the right direction in recent weeks is McLaren. Or at least, Lando Norris is, as the British driver has finished fourth and second in his last two races. The improvements in the team's performances are down to upgrades to the car carried out over the past few weeks, and the results are now obvious to see.

Lando Norris first gave notice of McLaren’s improvements by finishing fourth in the Austrian Grand Prix. He then followed that up with an even better performance at Silverstone, finishing second behind Max Verstappen.

Our Hungarian Grand Prix Betting Picks

Sticking with the McLaren team, and one bet we like the look of this weekend also involves Lando Norris. If we’re going to give Max Verstappen a miss at -280, then we have to find something to bet on, and Lando Norris could be just the man.

In betting to finish in the top three, there are three odds on drivers to fill the podium places. They are Max Verstappen (-600), Sergio Perez (-125), and Fernando Alonso (-110).

Outside the top three, the betting is Lewis Hamilton at +120, Lando Norris at +250, Charles Leclerc at +275, Carlos Sainz at +350, and George Russell at +400.

Knowing what we now know about Lando Norris and his McLaren car upgrades, we think a bet on the British driver to finish in the top three again this weekend looks like a great value betting pick.
