Charles Leclerc for the podium and Ferrari to cause a home Grand Prix upset

This Sunday is the 2023 Italian Grand Prix, and this is the last leg of the European stage of the Formula 1 season. Max Verstappen is again favored to win, this time at -425. If he does claim victory, he sets a new record. Here we tell you if he will win and what the best bets to make are in our latest Formula 1 betting picks.

  • What; 2023 Italian Grand Prix - Round 15
  • Where; Autodromo Nazionale Monza, Italy
  • When; Sunday, September 3rd, 2023
  • Time; 9 am ET
  • Laps; 53
  • Race Distance; 306.72 km

When Max Verstappen took the checkered flag in his home race at the Zandvoort circuit last Sunday, he equaled the record set by Sebastian Vettel of a nine-race winning streak. Vettel’s record was set in 2013, also in a Red Bull.

This is likely to be Verstappen’s only chance to beat the record this season. After this race, there are only eight rounds left of the season. So Max knows it could be a case of now, or maybe never, as we don’t know what the situation might be at the start of the 2024 F1 season.

Formula 1 has become boring. Of that, there can be no doubt. No one (apart from Christian Horner) is interested in seeing one team (and driver) dominate like this, so who knows what changes might be around the corner next season to see the sport become more competitive again.

But for now, get set for more wins for Red Bull. They will be 100% focused on winning this race and setting a new record for the soon-to-be three-time world champion.

Betting to win the 2023 Italian F1 Grand Prix

Max Verstappen is on a nine-race winning streak. At the start of the season, he was -200 to win a Grand Prix. Those odds were soon trimmed to -300. Last week, he was -400, and now he is -425 to win at Monza. The Formula 1 online betting sites are making it impossible to back Verstappen. And in fairness, it’s hard to blame them.

After Verstappen in the betting to win at Monza is his Red Bull teammate, Sergio Perez (+1000). That is some gap between the favorite and the second favorite. And it’s crazy to think that Perez won two of the first four races this season.

Behind the two Red Bulls are Lewis Hamilton, Lando Norris, and Fernando Alonso. The trio are all +2000 to win the race. If anybody had said Lewis Hamilton would be +2000 to win an F1 race a couple of years after being half a lap away from his eighth world championship...... well, you can insert your cliche in there!

Can anybody stop Max Verstappen from winning again?

As we saw in the pouring rain at Zandvoort last week, things can go wrong in this sport. In a perfect world, if all goes well and all drivers drive their cars to the best of their ability, Max Verstappen wins. But sport isn’t like that. Thankfully!

And wouldn’t it be typical if something out of this world happened this weekend to prevent Verstappen from winning and beating Sebastian Vettel’s record?

Apart from something out of this world happening, the answer to the question about stopping Verstappen is no.

Best value Italian Grand Prix Picks

Okay, Max Verstappen is likely to win. But can we be backing him at -425? Not for us. Especially this weekend.

So where do we look for our best value F1 picks? We may have taken leave of our senses here, but we think Ferrari is worth a look at this weekend. This is their home Grand Prix, and after the farcical scenes last Sunday when they had no tires ready for Charles Leclerc when he came into the pits, they have to up their game.

We think they will. And Ferrari’s other driver, Carlos Sainz, who is a lot slower than Leclerc, finished fifth in Zandvoort last Sunday, showing that the car is performing well.

If, and we get that it's a big IF, Ferrari can get their drivers around the circuit without any calamities, then we feel that Charles Leclerc is a good bet to finish on the podium at odds of +250.

And what if that out-of-this-world event happens that stops Verstappen winning? Well, his teammate Sergio Perez will probably win. So this weekend we are going to have a small wager on Perez to win the Italian Grand Prix at odds of +1000.

But what about a Ferrari? After all, it is their home Grand Prix. So why not back them to win as well? For either Ferrari to win, you can get +1600. But bet very carefully in this market. We all know what will probably happen!
