Just like most of this series, the Hurricanes are a big -125 favorite here. The Devils meanwhile sit at +113 odds. Carolina has dominated New Jersey so far with the exception of a lopsided defeat in Game 3.

Preview

It truly looks like the Devils' promising season is about to come to a close unless they can pull off the unthinkable. Overcoming a 3-1 deficit is extremely difficult, especially against a team like Carolina. New Jersey has honestly just not shown up in the series, getting outscored 17-3 in the three losses.

Their only win was by a score of 8-4, but the Devils are struggling to find any type of consistency. The most difficult part about Thursday is going into the Canes' building and hopefully pushing the series back to Jersey.

The Devils came out and had a respectable first period Tuesday, going into the intermission in a 1-1 tie. But, they ultimately unraveled in the second. the Hurricanes proceeded to score five unanswered on Vita Vanecek before he was pulled in favor of Frederik Andersen. New Jersey needs the likes of Jack Huges and Nico Hischier to step up in a big way in this do-or-die contest or else the season will definitely be over. Also, the blue line must lock down. They're allowing far too many goals.

The Canes lost one of their best players in Andrei Svechnikov to a torn ACL prior to the playoffs, but that hasn't seemed to faze them. Carolina is on the brink of heading to the conference finals and with the Bruins already out, their path to the Stanley Cup doesn't seem all that difficult.

While the Panthers are red-hot in the postseason, the Hurricanes will fancy their chances. But first, it comes down to getting it done Thursday. Martin Necas led the charge in Game 4 with two goals, while Brett Pesce, Brent Burns, and Jordan Martinook also found the back of the net. Carolina is downright showing out in this series and should have a ton of confidence here.

However, they also know what New Jersey is capable of. Game 4 was a prime example as the Devils exploded for eight goals. Even if they don't win here, it's not a huge deal. That being said, going back to Newark up 3-2 on the road isn't ideal either. Closing things out in Game 5 should be the ultimate goal.

Devils vs Hurricanes Game 5 Picks

I honestly think New Jersey is too good of a team to lose another here. I expect them to at least force a Game 6 back at home. Take the Devils moneyline.
