Penguins Favored Over Canucks at Home Tuesday

Tuesday's NHL slate is jam-packed with ten games and among them is an intriguing matchup between the Vancouver Canucks and Pittsburgh Penguins a PPG Paints Arena. The puck drops at 7 PM ET here. Vancouver is losing a lot as of late, including a 7-4 defeat to the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday evening. The Pens, on the other hand, just beat the lowly Arizona Coyotes 4-1, ending a six-game losing streak. Keep reading for the Canucks vs Penguins prediction.

The Penguins come in as a -177 moneyline favorite. That's a 66.7% chance of winning. They're 4-2 in their last six against Vancouver, who sit at +160 odds for an implied win probability of 37.6%. The total is set at 6.5 goals. The Nucks won the most recent matchup against Pittsburgh by a score of 5-1 back in late October. The Pens are 17-13 as a moneyline favorite this season.

Vancouver vs Pittsburgh Preview

The 2022-23 campaign hasn't been kind to the Canucks. They're currently 12th in the Western Conference with a 17-19-3 record, and to make matters worse, star player Bo Horvat is rumored to possibly be on the move after he rejected their latest contract extension, according to reports. Horvat is easily Vancouver's best player and is trending toward a career year. He's scored 29 goals and tallied 15 assists for a total of 44 points in just 39 games played. Elias Pettersson is also flourishing, collecting 47 points, including 17 goals and 30 assists. The Nucks actually possess a really solid offense, ranking ninth in league with 3.38 goals per game. It simply comes down to the abysmal blue line, who are conceding 3.9 times per contest. That's the 31st. Vancouver is 32nd in penalty kill percentage, too. Their inability to stop opponents certainly showed against Winnipeg, giving up a whopping seven goals, despite outshooting the Jets 38-27. Collin Delia allowed four goals before Bruce Boudreau saw enough, bringing in Spencer Martin, who let three more shots beat him, taking the loss in the process. Offensively, J.T. Miller looked solid, leading the charge with a goal and two assists. The Canucks tend to play slightly better away from Rogers Arena, going 9-9-2. This is just the second game of a five-game road trip.

The Pens are currently in the playoff hunt, occupying the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference. They've compiled a 20-13-6 record. It's frankly wild that Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin are still producing after all these years. Both guys are playing a key part. Crosby leads the team with 20 goals and 27 assists at 35 years old. Malkin has 12 goals and has set up another 23. Jake Guentzel is another important piece, scoring 17 and supplying 20 assists. Pittsburgh is pretty well-rounded, ranking 11th in goals scored and 15th in goals allowed. As previously mentioned, they were on a brutal six-game skid but managed to snap out of it on Sunday versus Arizona. Guentzel played hero in this one, netting twice while Crosby tallied two assists. Casey DeSmith had a great night in between the posts, saving 23 shots to collect the victory. The Penguins are very good on home ice, going 10-4-4 as opposed to 10-9-2 on the road. That's a promising sign for Tuesday's affair.

Canucks vs Penguins Prediction

Pittsburgh is very good in front of its fans and has won two of the last three against Vancouver. I do think they will grab another win here and hand the Canucks another loss. Take the Penguins on the moneyline.
