IndyCar Drivers

A total of 24 drivers are poised for full-time participation in the 17-race 2024 IndyCar season. Notably, four of these drivers will be representing different teams compared to the previous year. Five are entering full-time competition for the first time.

It's worth mentioning that Dale Coyne Racing is yet to finalize their driver lineup for the upcoming 2024 season. Both of their cars are without confirmed drivers. David Malukas, now racing for Arrow McLaren, had previously piloted the No. 18 Honda under a partnership with his father's HMD Motorsports for two seasons. Similarly, Sting Ray Robb, currently with A.J. Foyt Enterprises, had driven the No. 51 Honda through a collaboration with Rick Ware Racing for one season.

Dale Coyne Racing has a history of making last-minute driver decisions. As the start of the season approaches, it remains uncertain whether they will secure one or two full-time drivers.

IndyCar Championship Betting Picks

As expected, continuity is poised to play a crucial role. Nine out of the top 10 drivers are slated to continue with their respective teams from the previous year. The lone exception is Marcus Ericsson, who, after three consecutive successful seasons and sixth-place points finishes with Chip Ganassi's team, has made the transition to Michael Andretti's squad.

Alex Palou

Can anybody stop Alex Palou from becoming the series' first repeat champion since 2011 with what would be his third title in four years? His 2023 season was historic in more ways than one.

He became the first five-win champion since 2016, the first driver to clinch a championship before the season finale since 2007, and the first driver to finish no worse than eighth place in any race during a season consisting of at least 17 races since 1922.

Interestingly, Palou is one of just three former champions listed inside the top eight. All have won multiple championships (Josef Newgarden, two, and Scott Dixon, six). Scott McLaughlin and Pato O'Ward are viewed as the favorites to become the first new champions since Palou won his first title in 2021.

2024 IndyCar Series

The 2024 NTT IndyCar Series marks the 113th official championship season of American open-wheel racing and the 29th season under IndyCar Series sanction. The pinnacle of the season will be the 108th iteration of the historic Indianapolis 500.

Alex Palou, the accomplished Spanish driver, steps into the season as the defending champion, having clinched his second IndyCar title in 2023. Meanwhile, Josef Newgarden embarks on the season as the reigning champion of the Indianapolis 500. He's aiming to defend his title in this prestigious race.

The 2.2-liter engines employed in the series are set to incorporate hybrid technology, deviating from the initial proposal of introducing a new 2.4-liter hybrid engine formula. Originally intended to debut the hybrid powertrain at the commencement of the season in St. Petersburg, IndyCar announced on December 7, 2023, a postponement of its introduction until after the Indianapolis 500.

Furthermore, 2024 marks the concluding year of IndyCar's existing television contract with NBC Sports, which commenced in 2019 and was extended in 2021.
