Kentucky Derby 2012 Online Horse Betting Favorites

Bodemeister Installed As Derby Morning-Line Favorite

Checking the Kentucky Derby Advanced Wagering board at online Racebook we see Bodemeister is installed as the early morning-line favorite after drawing post position 6 for this year’s Run for the Roses. This bay colt, a son of Empire Maker the 2003 Belmont winner, is owned by the Zayat Stables.

Despite a recent heart attack, legendary three-time derby winner, Bob Baffert, trains Bodemeister. We wish Bob well as his recovery continues. Baffert will be track side on Saturday to watch his 4-1 favorite, who is named after his son – who in turn is named after Olympic and World Championship gold medalist skier Bode Miller, run in the Derby. In four 2012 starts, Bodemeister has two wins to go along with two place showings.

Union Rags Nipping at Bodemeister’s Hoofs as Second Kentucky Derby Chalk

Owners Phyllis M. Wyeth and Chadds Ford Stable bring Union Rags to the Derby as the second chalk with a 9/2 morning-line. With bloodlines that steam all the way back to legendary Northern Dancer, this 3-year old colt is trained by Michael R. Matz – best know as the trainer of the late great Barbaro. In six prep races dating back to 07/12/11 Union Rags (love the name) has won four times to go with a second and third place finish.

While both these possible Champions deserve respect at the betting windows, neither is our choice to win on Derby Day. We’ll post our pick just prior to post time – please check back on race day. In the meantime, surf over to any of our top rated Racebooks to get in on the Kentucky Derby handicapping excitement!
