Early Predictions To Win 2022 Tennis US Open

We're only days removed from Novak Djokovic and Elena Rybakina winning Wimbledon titles, but it's not too early to look ahead to the sport's final Grand Slam of 2022 — the U.S. Open, which runs from August 29 to September 11. In the article ahead, we're going to be making early predictions to win the 2022 US Open, which will be valuable advice for futures bettors looking to cash in down the line.

US Open: Men's Tennis Pick

Top tennis betting sites have wasted zero time in setting lines for the final Grand Slam. Below you'll find the men's players currently most favored to win the US Open odds-wise:

PlayerBetUSBetOnline
Novak Djokovic+125+125
Daniil Medvedev+250+250
Carlos Alcaraz+375+375
Rafael Nadal+550+550
Alexander Zverev+900+900
Stefanos Tsitsipas+1200+1200

We'll be completely upfront and say we're not comfortable betting Djokovic — and it has nothing to due with his playing form. The Wimbledon winner is likely to be disallowed to compete at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center due to his unvaccinated status. At the moment, the US government mandates non-citizens to be vaccinated to enter the country. Unless that's removed from now and the end of next month, Djokovic will not be allowed to play. It's too huge of a gamble to take Djokovic, especially at +125 odds.

If Djokovic is ruled out then Medvedev would likely become the new betting favorite. He is the defending champion of the event, having defeated Djokovic a year ago. Medvedev was banned from Wimbledon, perhaps unfairly because of Russia's invasion of Ukraine (which he has nothing to do with), but no such rule exists at the US Open held in New York City.

It should also be noted no one's quite sure of Nadal's status. A torn abdominal muscle forced Nadal to pull out of the Wimbledon semi-finals. No one knows for sure if Nadal will return for the next Grand Slam, but we'd also be cautious around betting him. He's 36 years old now and injuries typically take longer to recover from as the body ages. A torn muscle is no joke — and even him at, say, 75 percent health won't be enough to survive this crowded field.

None of the players we've mentioned so far is our betting pick to win the US Open. Instead, we're taking 19-year-old prodigy Carlos Alcaraz to win his first-ever Grand Slam. The path to one is wide open if Djokovic and Nadal — two all-timers — do not partake. And we have to remember that the US Open takes place on a hard surface, which is Alcaraz's specialty.

The US Open is for Medvedev and Alcaraz to win with so many great players likely out (a list that also includes the injured Alexander Zverev). But we're favoring Alcaraz ever slightly. He's had a stronger 2022 and Alcaraz becoming the next great star of the sport feels inevitable. His crowning moment could very well come in New York City.

US Open: Women's Tennis Pick

The women's bracket isn't littered with injuries like the men's, which makes it slightly more competitive. At the moment, here are the players with the best odds of winning the women's US Open:

PlayerBetUSBetOnline
Iga Swiatek+225+225
Naomi Osaka+550+550
Simona Halep+1200+1200
Elena Rybakina+1200+1200
Aryna Sabalenka+1200+1200
Cori Gauff+1400+1400
Emma Raducanu+1400+1400
Serena Williams+1600+1600

Just like we disqualified Djokovic off the bat, we're doing the same with Osaka here. We mean, how in the world is she +500 to win the whole tourney — second-best? Her career has been in a freefall for over a year now, sans making the finals at the Miami Open back in March. Does she have the talent to perhaps make a deep run? Sure. But does she have the mental fortitude to win it all? We doubt it.

We have no such hesitations to make about Swiatek, however. Her 37-match win streak was shockingly ended at Wimbledon in only the third round. But then again, the grass surface of Wimbledon is not her strong suit. Therefore, we're confident she can get back on track come the US Open. She's still had an absolutely sensational 2022 campaign, which includes six titles — including the French Open.

Swiatek is our favorite bet to make, but Halep isn't a bad backup option — especially at her rather steep +1200 price. That's undervalued given her recent form, including a Wimbledon semi-finals appearance.
