What Is The NASCAR Snowball Derby
The NASCAR Snowball Derby is considered the most prestigious of all short-track stock-car races. Drivers come from all over the US to compete in the race. It's often referred to as the Daytona 500 of short-track racing.
The drivers will cover 300 laps to complete the 150-mile race. The race is contested on a half-mile asphalt oval track.
Friday qualifying sets the majority of the 30 spots on the grid for the race. On Saturday, the drivers who didn't qualify on Friday get to compete in a last-chance qualifier to earn one of the final spots in the main-event field.

Past champions of various NASCAR Series, such as Kyle Busch, Chase Elliott, Majeski, Ted Musgrave, and Erik Jones, also include wins in the Snowball Derby on their racing resumes. Elliott is a two-time winner of the race and the youngest driver to ever win the event.

Ty Majewski (+200)
Majewski won this race in 2020 and again in 2023. He was the 2024 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion.
Majewski finished second in the division in 2025.
Kaden Honeycutt (+350)
Last year's race winner, Honeycutt, also competes in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. He finished third in 2025.
He has also competed in the CARS Pro Late Model Tour since 2021. Honeycutt has at least one win in that series every season that he's raced.
Stephen Nasse (+550)
A late model stock car racing legend, Nasse has never won the Snowball Derby. He thought he'd won the race in 2019. However, his car failed the technical inspection, and Nasse was stripped of his win.
His car was found to have titanium piston caps in the braking system, which is against the rules in late model racing.
Derek Thorn (+900)
Another late model racing icon, Thorn won the Snowball Derby in 2022.
He's a two-time champion of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West. Thorn currently competes full-time on the SRL Southwest Tour.
Cole Butcher (+1400)
The Canadian driver made his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debut in 2025, competing in two races. Butcher also ran some races on the CARS Pro Late Model Tour in 2023, winning one race.
Dawson Sutton (+1400)
Still a teenager, Sutton, 19, competes on a full-time basis on the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. He finished 18th in the series in 2025.
Dawson Sutton owned the All American 400 - his hometown track, a major milestone, and a hell of a drive in the No. 26 to close out the @racewithstars season.
Next up? The Snowball Derby.
Different track. Same fire. He’s coming in hot.#ForTheFearless #TeamSimpson #WinWithSimpson pic.twitter.com/vOS59HrA0P— SimpsonRaceProducts (@SimpsonRacing) November 19, 2025
He's raced two seasons on the CARS Pro Late Model Tour and one season on the ASA STARS Super Late Model Series.
Bubba Pollard (+1800)
Pollard, 38, is among the most successful super late model drivers in racing today. He has won the All-American 400, Rattler 250, World Crown 300, and the 2014 Southern Super Series championship.
There's one race that's proving elusive to him on the late model circuit. Pollard has never won the Snowball Derby.
Jake Garcia (+2000)
Garcia finished 10th this season racing on the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. In 2019, Garcia won the track championship in Pro Late Models at Five Flags Speedway.
He won the Allen Turner Pro Late Model Series title this year.
NASCAR Snowball Derby Pick
There are some big names in the field, including a pair of NASCAR stars in Busch and Jones, who are each two-time winners of the race.
Among the late model stars, Pollard is making his 20th attempt to win. Nasse finished second last year. But the guy to watch at a price is Butcher. He was the winner of the past two Sunshine State 200s at Five Flags Speedway, so he knows how to win at this track. Take Butcher to win in the NASCAR Snowball Derby picks.
