Colorado Avalanche Online Betting Tips

A franchise notorious for its winning tradition, the Colorado Avalanche have struggled in the salary-cap era. The Avs always had Joe Sakic, Peter Forsberg and Patrick Roy to lean on when it mattered most, but the new-look Avs have struggled in a Western Conference stacked with powerhouse clubs like the Chicago Blackhawks, San Jose Sharks and St. Louis Blues.

From 2010 to 2016, the Avs reached the post-season one time, they were eliminated in the opening round. But despite the organization’s downturn, there is still an abundance of potential — especially up front with star center Nathan MacKinnon leading the way. The team’s first overall pick in 2013 has not disappointed since breaking into the NHL. In his first season as an 18-yea-old, MacKinnon netted 24 goals and 39 assists in winning the Calder Trophy as rookie of the year.

Where the Avs have run into trouble over the last few seasons is on the back end — both on the blue-line and between the pipes. Take the 2015-16 season as an example; the Avs scored a respectable 212 goals, but allowed 240, which was the sixth most in the NHL that year.

If you’re planning to put your money down on the Avalanche, the club historically has played better on home ice, where they have taken advantage of the altitude in Denver.

So how close are the Avalanche from once again becoming legitimate Stanley Cup contenders? With a handful of promising forwards in the system, the Avs are well set offensively. If the organization can focus on improving their blue-line, they’ll once again be a team to be reckoned with, also making them an easier choice to confidently put your money on.

Colorado Avalanche History

Quebec City’s loss was Colorado’s gain when the team relocated to the Mile High State in 1995. After years of mediocrity as the Nordiques, the club found instant success in Colorado — winning the Stanley Cup in its first season in the city.

That was thanks in part to the trio of Sakic, Forsberg and Roy, who helped the Avalanche sweep the Florida Panthers in the final. It was the beginning of what can be considered a dynasty team, which went on to capture two Presidents’ Trophies and another Stanley Cup crown.

Sakic is arguably the best player to ever wear a Nordiques/Avalanche uniform and is the franchise’s all-time leader in points (1,641) and goals (625). Perhaps one of the most impressive team record that stands to this day is Peter Stastny’s 139-point season — a mark that was set during the 1981-82 season..
