Best Bets to Win 2019 Tour de France

Geraint Thomas (+225)

Last year's winner of the Tour de France deserves more respect. Geraint Thomas ended the three-year rein by his Great Britain teammate Thomas Forme in convincing fashion. The duo crossed the finish line together, but Thomas' victory was never in doubt.

His candidacy this summer is a different story. People are doubting his form following a crash out in the Tour de Suisse. It doesn't help that there will be 30 climbs at the Tour de France that have been billed as the toughest in race history.

Still, Thomas has subjected himself to intense training rides in advance of July 6. The need to hedge by naming a co-favorite with Egan Bernal is understandable. In our book, though, Thomas is the clear-cut No. 1.

Egan Bernal (+225)

Bernal is not getting special treatment just because he's a co-favorite. He deserves his spot on the list, as a viable challenger to Thomas' throne.

Some were worried that he wouldn't recover from a crash at the Giro d'Italia. Not only did he prove them wrong, but he did so emphatically, winning the Tour de Suisse. Without four-time winner Loome in the fold following a crash of his own, it is fair to consider Bernal the second-best bet of the field.

Vincenzo Nibali (+2400)

Vincenzo Nibali being on the longer-shot end of the Tour de France makes for a great investment. The 34-year-old Italian won the race decidedly in 2014, and he has the mountain riding skills to emerge victorious yet again.

Typically, Nibali cares mostly about winning stages, as we've seen in recent years. But this summer's field is begging for him to go after an overall victory. Top riders Froome and Tom Dumoulin are on the sidelines, which gives Nibali potential claim to one of the three best riders in this race.

2019 Tour de France Winner Prediction

This won't be the most popular pick, but we're going with Vincenzo Nibali.

Again: It matters that he prefers to go after single-stage victories. But a shallower field at the top will allow him to prioritize an overall win without overtaxing himself.

It helps that he should be well-rested, too. Nibali has been training, but his only official race since the beginning of June was the Gran Premio Citta di Lugano, which is located near his home. His legs are ready for the immense climbs awaiting him. We recommend jumping on his odds before the start of the race to maximize your potential return.

2019 King of the Hill Betting Odds

The Tour de France's King of the Hill crown is a subcategory of the historic race. It is the title given to the best climber of the field. As the race wears on, the leader dons a special polka-dot jersey. Though this is not the main prize, many riders enter the Tour de France hoping to win this esteemed honor.

Most sportsbooks haven't listed their King of the Hill odds just yet. Fortunately for us, My Bookie has the early-bird lines covered. Below are the top eight candidates to take home the honor:

  • Julian Aliphilippe (+175)
  • Warren Barguil (+500)
  • Giulio Ciccone (+900)
  • Mikel Landa (+1300)
  • Egan Bernal (+1600)
  • Thomas De Gendt (+1900)
  • Fabio Aru, Vincenzo Nibali (+2300)

2019 King of the Hill Winner Prediction

It has been quite some time since the reigning King of the Hill champ repeated his victory, but we're inclined to go with Julian Aliphilippe anyway.

Vincenzo Nibali is also a decent pick if you're convinced he won't chase an overall win. We're not. We picked him to take the whole thing. Aliphilippe, on the other hand, is a rider who enters the Tour de France angling specifically for the King of the Hill distinction.

Note the separation between him and the owner of the second-best odds, Warren Barguil. This isn't an accident. Aliphilippe is a heavier favorite to win King of the Hill than Gertaint Thomas is to win overall.

Bet on him. Now.
