Betting Picks To Win 2022 Emmys

The biggest night of the “small screen” is September 12 as the 2022 Emmys will crown the best in the TV and streaming service show categories. This is also a large betting opportunity for those wanting to take a break from the usual sports gambling. Keep reading for expert betting picks to win the top 2022 Emmy awards!

Outstanding Drama Series

Let’s begin with the odds for Outstanding Drama Series, which is highly competitive among two series — Netflix’s viral hit “Squid Game” and the 25-time nominated (most of the night) Succession. Here’s how the top entertainment-based betting sites are pegging the race odds-wise:

ShowBovadaBetOnline
Succession-180-180
Squid Game+225+225
Better Call Saul+375+375
Severance+1000+1000
Ozark+1400+1400
Stranger Things+1400+1400

It’s shaping up to be a huge night for HBO’s Succession that follows a power-hungry family. Fourteen of Succession's 25 Emmys came in acting categories — breaking the previous record for the most Emmy-acting nods for any series in a single year (13 by Roots). In the past, Succession has piled up awards at the Emmys, Golden Globes, etc. and 2022 could blow those performances out of the water based on momentum alone.

However, you can’t completely overlook Squid Game, which is the first non-English show to be nominated for Outstanding Drama Series at the Emmys in history — and that’s a powerful narrative that can will a series to the finish line in first place. One of the few applicable comparisons for the show is “Parasite”, a separate South Korean production, which cleaned up as a non-English work in movie awards shows.

We have a strong inkling Squid Game pulls off the upset here. Succession will still have a record-breaking night across the board, but in doing so, being slighted for Best Drama won’t come as big of a shock. Hollywood champions diversity and Squid Game is the quintessential representation of that.

Outstanding Comedy Series

It’s an absolutely crowded competition to win outstanding comedy series at the Emmys. As it stands, four previous Emmys winners — The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Atlanta, Barry, and Ted Lasso — are up for it. Here’s how the odds shake out:

ShowBovadaBetOnline
Ted Lasso-140-140
Barry+200+200
Hacks+325+325
Abbott Elementary+800+800
Only Murders in the Building+1200+1200
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel+2800+2800

We’re actually surprised Ted Lasso is only -150. For one, they’re the reigning champions of this category. And second, it’s 20 nominations show-wide is tied for second most of any series. This is the perfect opportunity to latch yourself onto a betting favorite while the odds remain reasonable — and maxing our value is always a smart betting strategy.

So yes, we’re taking Ted Lasso here. Let’s not forgot the Emmys had a decade-long run where the same shows (Modern Family and Veep) won the comedy awards over and over again. Voters have a tendency to stick with “comfort shows” and that’s Ted Lasso, the one and perhaps only breakout hit of Apple+ streaming service.

Best Lead Actress In A Drama Series

As far as we can tell, it’s Zendaya’s award to lose for Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series. She’s a staggering favorite as seen in the underneath betting lines:

ActressBovadaBetOnline
Zendaya (Euphoria)-300-200
Melanie Lynskey (Yellowjackets)+325+150
Laura Linney (Ozark)+375+850
Jodie Comer (Killing Eve)+1200+1600
Sandra Oh (Killing Eve)+1200+1800

We’ll be upfront and say Zendaya is probably winning, hence her steep odds. She’s previously won this category in 2020 for her work on the HBO hit “Euphoria.” This year’s nomination is for the sophomore season of the show, which divided critics but was eaten up by fans. While we think Zendaya is taking the award, we’re not wagering on her — not at those odds which pay little.

This is the perfect award to wager on a “darkhorse.” For us, that’s four-time Emmy winner Laura Linney. She’s nominated for Ozark, which finished its supposed last season at Netflix. Linney’s portrayal of a money-laundering, win-at-all costs widow has yet to be recognized by the Emmys despite a successful four-season run. At +700 odds, she’s worth taking a flyer bet on in case voters want to give her the perfect swan song.

Outstanding Limited Series

It’s a two-show race to win Outstanding Limited series. Look how uber close the lines are between Hulu’s Dopesick and HBO’s The White Lotus:

ShowBovadaBetOnline
The White Lotus-200-200
Dopesick+150+150
The Dropout+850+850
Inventing Anna+1600+1600
Pam & Tommy+1800+1800

White Lotus, along with Succession and Lotus, is the biggest Emmy darling across the entire show. It received 20 different nominations, tying for second most. As a frame of reference, 20 nominations is more than three other award contenders here — The Dropout, Inventing Anna, and Pam & Tommy — did combined, which is 19. As we said, it’s a darling sensation among voters.

What probably hurts Dopesick in this award is the show’s actual subject matter. Its real-life portrayal of America’s drug problem isn’t for the faint of heart. It just lacks any feel-good vibe to it — which is purposeful — that’s sometimes needed to sway votes in your favor. So yes, we’re going with the much more watchable-to-the-masses series, The White Lotus.
