2021 NFL Picks: Week 13

For anyone new to this party, here's how our NFL predictions work: We pore over Week 13's most intriguing matchups and then identify our best NFL bets from that field in hopes of selecting nothing but winners.

Now, let's hop to it, starting with the mission-critical showdown between the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks.

San Francisco Makes It Four Straight Wins

It wasn't long ago that the Niners looked absolutely cooked. Fast forward to now, and they're working off three straight victories, including a win apiece over the Los Angeles Rams and Minnesota Vikings—two legitimately difficult opponents.

Whether the Niners have the juice to enter the Super Bowl discussion is debatable. They are third in the NFC West division and need to usurp one of the Rams or Arizona Cardinals

From where we're standing, that's not an impossible task. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has looked great over the past few weeks, piloting an offense that has topped 30 points three times in their past four games, and the defense remains fairly sturdy. Division rivalry games always lend themselves to an air of unpredictability, but the Seahawks are struggling enough for us to invest in San Francisco with confidence.

Cowboys Get Back on Track with Win Over New Orleans

Don't worry about the Dallas Cowboys...yet.

Their Thanksgiving Day loss to the Las Vegas Raiders was inexcusable. They need to do something about their defense.

But Dak Prescott continues to captain a very dangerous offense. That should be enough to steal a win from the still-shorthanded New Orleans Saints.

Minnesota Cruises Past Detroit

We needn't read too much into the Vikings' loss last week at the hands of the Niners. Minnesota remains one of the most underrated teams in football.

It helps, of course, that they're facing perhaps the league's worst team in the Detroit Lions. The Vikings, who rank ninth in points per game, should have an absolute field day through the air and could win by two scores.

Tampa Bay will Roll Over Atlanta

Little to no justification is needed when picking the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to take down the Atlanta Falcons.

Sure, it was touch-and-go for a minute in Tampa Bay when they lost two in a row to inferior opponents. But Tom Brady and crew have since responded by dropping 68 combined points over their past two games

Atlanta, in our book, doesn't stand a chance.

Rams Keep Their NFC West Title Hopes Alive

Something needs to give for the Rams. Their playoff stock has taken a major hit amid the rise of the 49ers and their own offensive struggles. Trading for quarterback Matthew Stafford over the offseason has dramatically improved their passing attack, but they've still been limited to fewer than 17 points in two of their past three games.

This isn't a huge concern against the Jacksonville Jaguars. They rank in the bottom seven of both points scored and allowed per game. Los Angeles should be able to get back in the win column.

OSB Prediction: Los Angeles Rams (-650)

The Chiefs Prove They're Back for Good

Remember when we were all worried about the Kansas City Chiefs? It feels like forever ago.

To be more exact, it was exactly four straight victories ago. The Chiefs have not lost since Week 7.

Of course, quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the rest of the offense have struggled at points over this stretch. They can get too turnover-happy. But the defense has really picked things up. They're allowing fewer than 12 points per game over this current winning streak, and they shouldn't have any issue hanging tough against a Denver Broncos offense desperate for any sort of firepower.

Baltimore Staves Off Pittsburgh

After emerging as a potential Super Bowl favorite, the Baltimore Ravens have started to sputter. Sure, they are working off two straight victories, but the offense is showing signs of wear and tear.

Baltimore has topped 17 points just once over their past five games, a real concern if you consider them viable title candidates. Against the Pittsburgh Steelers, though, this isn't a huge deal.

Pittsburgh has looked terrible for much of the year and is coming off a blowout loss in Week 12 during which QB Ben Roelthisberger couldn't get anything going. The Ravens should prevail.
