New York Giants Poised to Shock NFL Again with Week 7 Upset vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

Has there been a more surprising team during the 2022 NFL season than the New York Giants? Don't bother searching for an alternative answer. There isn't one. They are clearly the biggest surprise, and it isn't even close. No one had the Giants starting the year 5-1. They've clearly flipped the script.

Or have they? The best online betting sites for NFL still aren't treating them like a trustworthy good team. Never mind Super Bowl betting odds. The Giants continue to remain weekly underdogs.

Nothing has changed entering New York's Week 7 matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Linemakers have actually pegged the 2-4 Jags as the favorite—even though they've lost three straight games. It's truly bizarre.

Before we go any further, though, here are the latest NFL online betting odds for Giants vs. Jaguars, as well as every other game taking place during Week 7:

Now, however, it's time to drop our Week 7 NFL picks for Giants vs. Seahawks. And not only are we tackling the outright winner, but we've also got predictions for how the point spread and over/under will pan out.

It's Time to Take the New York Giants Seriously Entering Week 7

Putting the Giants in the underdog spot is a truly interesting decision. The Jaguars are coming off three straight losses, and while they've all come by one-possession point margins, just two of the letdowns came versus projected playoff teams.

Perhaps oddsmakers are baking in a home-team boon. The Jags have played just one game at home over the past four weeks—and it was a Week 5 loss to the lowly Houston Texans.

Quarterback Trevor Lawrence has looked a lot better under pressure this year, but Jacksonville still doesn't trust him to make complicated decisions. The Jags are 20th in passing attempts and eighth in rushing attempts. That imbalance is not going to serve them well against a Giants defense absolutely feasting on their opponents this season.

Yes, New York is 31st in net yards allowed per rushing attempt. That's not great. But that's because they typically sell off to pressure the quarterback. They just clinched a win in Week 6 with a strip-sack of Lamar Jackson in Week 6. Jacksonville's offensive line doesn't offer that much more resistance, and if the Jags stick to their run-heavy game plan, the Giants will adjust their defensive formations accordingly.

Indeed, New York's offense remains a wild card of its own. That's fine. They're built to win rock fights. They prefer it, actually. Perhaps you're worried about the Giants having to travel back from London for this week's matchup. We can't bring ourselves to care. They may not be a Super Bowl contender, but they're not the type of team that loses to a slumping Jaguars squad, either.

Giants are the Easy Week 7 Point Spread Bet in Matchup with Jaguars

Here are the latest Week 7 point spread betting odds for Giants vs. Jaguars:

  • Jacksonville Jaguars, -3 (-106)
  • New York Giants, +3 (-114)

Choosing the Giants to cover the point spread is a no-brainer for us since we actually think they're going to win outright. But they're a worthwhile spread bet even if you think the Jags will win.

New York has prided itself on controlling the pace of games this season. No outcome of theirs—win or loss—has been decided by more than eight points, and only two have been determined by more than five points. With both Jacksonville and New York boasting above-average defenses, we expect this one to be closely contested no matter who picks up the W.

Bet the Over on New York vs. Jacksonville in Week 7 with Cautious Optimism

Check out the latest over/under betting odds for Giants vs. Jaguars:

  • Over 42.5 (-110)
  • Under 42.5 (-110)

The over has hit in two-thirds of the Jaguars' games this season. Conversely, the under has it in two-thirds of the Giants' contests this year. What should we do?

We are reluctantly leaning toward the over. The Giants have cleared 20 points in each of their past three contests, which is half the battle. Jacksonville's offense, meanwhile, has underperformed, but they should be able to get their fair share of red zone opportunities if New York continues to relax its rush defense for the first half of the game.

Plus, if it's any consolation, four of the Jaguars' first six games have featured them topping 20 points. If they hit that mark against the Giants, this game is almost a guaranteed over payout.

OSB Prediction: Over 42.5 (-110)
