2019 Breeders Cup Betting Breakdown

Breeders Cup Classic Odds

Here are the odds for the top 10 contenders in the Breeders Cup Classic:

  • McKinzie (+400)
  • Code of Honour (+800)
  • Maximum Security (+800)
  • Thunder Snow (+1200)
  • Omaha Beach (+1400)
  • Higher Power (+1600)
  • Improbable (+1800)
  • Tacitus (+1800)
  • Catholic Boy (+2000)
  • Japan (+2000)

Breeders Cup Classic Prediction

McKinzie has remained at the top of the Breeders Cup classic board since the lines opened. His odds have, however, started to shift. He opened at around +300 to +350. The action on him clearly hasn’t been strong.

To be fair, it isn’t hard to see why. He came into last year’s classic on a tear and was cited as one of the favorites, but he went on to finish 12th. People seem worried about how he’ll fare on the one-and-a-quarter-mile track again.

For the time being, we’re with them. Code of Honour and Maximum Security are both better investments at +800 apiece.

Maximum Security is particularly intriguing. He was initially crowned the winner of this year’s Kentucky Derby but was ultimately disqualified. Though he’s been off since his victory at the Haskell Invitational, he’s recently returned to his full workload, and the plan is to run him out at Belmont Park’s Bold ruler before the Breeder’s Classic.

Given how well Maximum Security has run this year overall, we’re inclined to ignore the ill-effects that a longer hiatus might have on him.

Breeders Cup Classic Prediction: Maximum Security (+800)

Breeders Cup Distaff Odds

Here are the odds for the top 10 contenders in the Breeders Cup Distaff:

  • Midnight Bisou (+150)
  • Guarana (+600)
  • Street Band (+700)
  • Dunbar Road (+700)
  • Elate (+800)
  • Blue Prize (+1000)
  • Paradise Woods (+1200)
  • Golden Award (+1400)
  • Come Dancing (+1400)
  • Wow Cat (+1600)

Breeders Cup Distaff Prediction

None of the bigwig analysts are expecting fireworks during the Breeders Cup Distaff. Midnight Bisou is the overwhelming favorite, and the line only figures to move further away from his +150.

Bettors looking for a larger potential return might not stick with her. Guarana (+600) and Blue Prize (+1000) are two other contenders we recommend keeping an eye on. The way both of them run on the turn was made for this track at the Santa Anita Park.

Count us out from taking any real risks, though. Midnight Bisou has not just been good. She’s been dominant. Not only did she finish third in last year’s Distaff at Churchill Downs, but she’s undefeated in her seven posts this year, including her most recent showing at the Beldame Invitational

Breeders Cup Distaff Prediction: Midnight Bisou (+150)

Breeders Cup Filly and Mare Odds

Here are the odds for the top 10 contenders in the Breeders Cup Filly and Mare Sprint:

  • Covfefe (+300)
  • Come Dancing (+350)
  • Marleys Freedom (+550)
  • Guarana (+700)
  • Spiced Perfection (+800)
  • Serengeti Empress (+800)
  • Secret Spice (+1000)
  • Royal Charlotte (+1000)
  • Separationofpowers (+1400)
  • Chalon (+1400)

Breeders Cup Filly and Mare Sprint Prediction

The Breeders Cup Filly and Mare running is difficult to project. And make no mistake, that’s by design.

This race only spans seven furlongs, which makes it prone to less predictable outcomes. Any horse can get a nice start out of the gate and wind up stealing the show.

People will gravitate to Covfefe (+300), who has tested well under these conditions before. For our money, though, we like Come Dancing at +350. While she’s only slightly less of a favorite, this price is actually quite good.

Oddsmakers—professional prognosticators—initially appeared worried about overtaxing her. She is, after all, five years old. But she ran five furlongs in basically a minute flat at the Belmont Training Track, which ended up being the fastest time posted on the day.

If you’re looking for a super underdog that has a fighting chance, Secret Spice (+1000) possesses the opening-gate speed to crash the party. Taking a flier on Chalon (+1400) isn’t the worst idea either. He tore up at the track in his recent first-place finish at the Roamin Rachel Stakes.

Still, in the end, we like Come Dancing to win the whole thing.

Breeders Cup Filly and Mare Sprint Prediction: Come Dancing (+350)
