Notts Outlaws looking good to win 2024 T20 Blast

Somerset will be looking to defend their title when the 2024 T20 Blast gets underway in England and Wales in May. The defending champions are +750 to win for the second successive year. The Notts Outlaws are the favorites at +600. And in our latest cricket betting picks, we tell you if the Outlaws can prove the bookmakers right and win the title for the third time.

  • What: 2024 T20 Blast
  • Participants: 18
  • Where: England and Wales
  • When: May 30th - September 14th, 2024
  • Matches: 133
  • Format: Two groups followed by a knockout

The English county cricket season has started. The County Championship is always the curtain raiser, with the players donning their whites to play the longer format of the English summer game.

But with the nights now getting longer, it will soon be time for the limited-overs matches to start, and the first white ball competition to get underway is the T20 Blast.

Not to be confused with The Hundred tournament, the T20 Blast is English cricket's domestic T20 competition. It’s similar to the IPL. But it isn’t franchise cricket like the Indian version.

Instead, all 18 English county teams compete. They don’t all play under their county names, with most choosing to use a variation of their traditional name, such as Lancashire, who are known as Lancashire Lightning for this competition.

Warwickshire took their rebranding a stage further, changing their name to Birmingham Bears.

T20 Blast 2024 Format

The T20 Blast starts with two groups of nine. All nine teams will play seven matches at home and seven away. The two groups are:-

  • North Group: Birmingham Bears, Derbyshire Falcons, Durham, Lancashire Lightning, Leicestershire Foxes, Northants Steelbacks, Notts Outlaws, Worcestershire Rapids, Yorkshire Vikings
  • South Group: Essex Eagles, Glamorgan, Gloucestershire, Hampshire Hawks, Kent Spitfires, Middlesex, Somerset, Surrey, Sussex Sharks

In the betting to win the North Group, the Notts Outlaws are favorites at +280. Lancashire Lightning are at +375, and the Birmingham Bears at +450.

In the South Group betting, Surrey is the +300 favorite, ahead of Essex (+350) and Somerset (+400).

The top four teams in each group will advance to the quarter-finals, where the competition becomes a straight knockout.

The four quarter-finals will be played at the home grounds of the four highest seeds, with the four winners advancing to Finals Day, where the two semi-finals and final are all played on the same day at the same venue (Edgbaston) in a cricketing extravaganza.

2024 T20 Blast Winner betting

There have been six different winners of the Blast in the past six years. It is a very open competition from a betting perspective, and as a result, there are good value cricket betting odds available at the beginning of the competition.

The Notts Outlaws are one of the stronger whiteball teams in recent years. The Outlaws won the T20 Blast in 2017 and 2020 and are the most recent team to win it twice.

Notts are +600 to win the competition for the third time in eight years. Following Notts in the betting are Surrey at +650, with Essex (+700) and Somerset (+750) making up the four favorites.

Outside the leading contenders are the Lancashire Lightning (+800) and the Birmingham Bears (+900).

T20 Blast betting picks

The main contenders to win the 2024 T20 Blast have to be the Notts Outlaws.

Coached by former England head coach Peter Moores, the Outlaws will be captained by Joe Clarke in 2024. Clarke was a part of the team that won the competition in 2020 and has played T20 cricket across the globe.

Along with England’s Test opener Ben Duckett and former England white-ball opener Alex Hales, Notts will have an explosive top order, and we are slightly surprised they are not shorter odds to win the competition.

Our pick to win the T20 Blast in 2024 is the Notts Outlaws.

T20 Blast Dark Horses

With long odds available on all teams, we are naming two dark horse betting picks.

First, we like the look of the Birmingham Bears. The Bears are captained by Moeen Ali (depending on IPL and England commitments), and the Finals Day is also held at their Edgbaston home.

At +900, the Birmingham Bears are a good value dark horse betting pick.

Finally, we are looking at a team from the South Group. History says that no team defends this trophy, and we don't see Somerset breaking that trend this year.

Instead, we are looking at the James Vince-led Hampshire Hawks. The former England batter has had plenty of success in the Big Bash League with the Sydney Sixers in recent years.

Vince is an experienced canny operator who knows how to win tight games. He has a lot of talented bowlers like Mason Crane, Liam Dawson, and Brad Wheel at his disposal.

The batting doesn’t look as strong. But if James Vince can have a good tournament with the bat and find some support, the Hawks would be a real threat and worth a small wager at +1000.
