Which Director Will Walk Away With The Oscar?
A veteran of the screen whose work is long overdue for recognition is Paul Dean Anderson. He figures to finally get his due reward this year. Anderson is the massive -2000 chalk to win the Best Director Oscar for One Battle After Another. Anderson has already won this year at the Critics' Choice, Golden Globes, and BAFTAs.
VF’s Oscars 2026 Winner Predictions:

Certainly, you can make a case that Ryan Coogler (+600) deserves to be the first black director to win an Oscar for Sinners. In any other year, he'd probably win. But Anderson is proving to be unstoppable this year.
What About The Supporting Actor Oscars?
The Best Supporting Actor is truly a pick'em scenario. It could go to Sean Penn (-350) for One Battle After Another, Stellan Skarsgård (+400) for Sentimental Value, or perhaps Delroy Lindo (+800) for Sinners.
So far, they've all been winners. Skarsgård won at the Golden Globes, while Elordi captured Critics' Choice recognition. But it was Penn winning at the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) and the Actor Awards (SAG). Historically, winning at SAG is a trend to follow. That winner has won every Best Supporting Actor since 2017.
Our best bet says to go with Penn. But the one sure thing is that if he wins, he won't be there. Penn wasn't on hand to pick up the bauble for either of his previous wins this year.
As for the Best Supporting Actress, it's Amy Madigan who is moving to the top of the class for Weapons. She's now the even-money favorite.
The early love was trending toward One Battle After Another's Tenyana Taylor (+185). Everyone loves a nasty villain, and Madigan delivers the goods in her role as Aunt Gladys. Plus, the Oscars often turn into a career achievement award for veteran actors such as Madigan, whose body of work is overdue for award recognition.
Best Bet For Academy Awards Best Actress
Industry insiders believe this category offers the lock of Oscar night. It would be beyond unbelievable if Jessie Buckley (-3500) doesn't win for her work as Shakespeare's grieving wife in Hamnet.
That would explain why Buckley is such an overwhelming odds-on favorite. There are some traditionally strong contenders like Emma Stone (+2800) and Kate Hudson (+2000), but their performances all pale in comparison to Buckley's starring role.
Who Will Win Best Actor Oscar?
There was a sense within the industry that Timothée Chalamet (+125) was robbed of the Best Actor Oscar last year for his performance in A Complete Unknown. In any other year, he probably deserves to win this year for his sensational work in Marty Supreme.
Michael B. Jordan’s come a long way from Friday Night Lights. Once a former child star, Jordan now finds himself at the doorstep of #Oscar. He could join the likes of Denzel Washington, Sidney Poitier, Jamie Foxx & more. We’re witnessing history unfold before our very eyes. pic.twitter.com/uNK70KZFKG

However, it's going to be winning time for Michael B. Jordan (-125). Playing dual roles as Twins in Sinners as he does battle with vampires, Jordan goes above and beyond, displaying his acting chops while creating two distinctly different characters. It's an epic performance.
Which Film Will Win Best Picture Oscar?
If you were to poll film goers, the majority would tell you that the best picture they've seen this year is Sinners (+300). However, another Oscar follower will tell you that those who should win Academy Awards often don't.
One Battle After Another (-500) has been a juggernaut throughout the nomination season. There's been evidence from minor awards shows suggesting the picture may be running out of steam as the finish line nears.
Still, Oscars for best picture are rarely given to horror films like Sinners. It's been 34 years since The Silence of the Lambs scared everyone out of their wits en route to winning the Best Picture Oscar. Follow the form charts and go with One Battle After Another in the Oscars Best Picture picks.
