Can New England Patriots Take Down the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 15?

The New England Patriots may be making a late-season surge.

Despite seeing their odds to make the 2022 NFL playoffs fall off a cliff, could the New England Patriots be poised to make a late-season run?

The answer isn't quite clear entering their Week 15 matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, December 18, at 4:05 p.m. EST. Sure, the Patriots are above .500, with a better point differential than the suddenly feared (yet currently slumping) Miami Dolphins. New England is also coming off a rousing Monday Night Football victory in Week 14 over the Arizona Cardinals. But the offense has been severely lacking all year, and their vaunted defense has started to show cracks in the armor. On top of all that, the Patriots will be on the road, in Las Vegas, where the Vikings actually have a winning record on the season.

Almost needless to say, predicting the outcome of this game is going to be difficult. We're ready for the challenge anyway. To get us started, here's a look at the latest NFL online betting odds for Patriots vs. Raiders, courtesy of the folks over at BetOnline:

Why Aren't the New England Patriots Favored to Beat the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 15?

Oddsmakers are not being kind to the Patriots here. And we kind of get it.

New England struggled to beat an underachieving Arizona squad that lost Kyle Murray to a torn ACL in Week 14. Not only that, but the offense has scored fewer than 11 points twice in the past four weeks. That doesn't feel like a good omen. Especially when the Patriots are headed out on the road.

Still, the Raiders are not some juggernaut. All five of their wins this season have come against non-playoff teams, and they just lost to the Los Angeles Rams, a squad that's currently among the worst in the NFL and without their starting quarterback, Matthew Stafford.

Las Vegas isn't playing dominant football at home, either. They are 3-3 in Las Vegas on the season, and none of those victories have come against opponents over .500. This game will be played on Saturday, so the Patriots are on operating on a short week. That's something to consider. But we're picking their defense to hold up anyway.
