UK Championship Snooker Format

Played at the York Barbican in York, England, the UK Championship is part of snooker's Triple Crown. They have been contesting this event annually since 1977. This year's event is the 49th edition.

The top 16 players in the world rankings automatically qualify for the tournament and are slotted in to fill the top 16 seeds. A 128-player qualifying tournament was held to fill the remaining 16 spots on the grid. A random draw was held to determine which qualifiers would face the 16 top seeds in first-round matchups for the single-elimination competition.

All matches are played as the best of 11 frames up to the final. The final is contested as the best of 19 frames and is played over two sessions.

UK Championship Snooker Top Contenders

Trump beat Barry Hawkins 10-8 in last year's final to win his second UK Championship. His previous title came in 2011.

Already, some of the world's top players have fallen by the wayside. Eight-time UK Championship winner Ronnie O'Sullivan was a first-round loser. World No. 2 Kyren Wilson also fell victim to a first-round upset. Former UK champ Mark Allen was falling 6-1 to No. 52 seed Scott Donaldson in opening-round action.

Let's look at the remaining top contenders.

Judd Trump (+275)

Trump opened with a 6-4 win over Scotland's Stephen McGuire, the 2004 UK Championship winner, in the first round. He followed that up with a 6-3 decision over China's Si Jiahui to advance to the quarterfinals. He's been a participant in the final of this event four times.

Zhao Xintong (+350)

The 2021 UK Championship winner and a past snooker world champion, Xintong is one of only two Chinese players to capture the UK Championship.

Mark Selby (+350)

England's Selby won this tournament in 2012 and 2016. He was the losing finalist in 2013.

Neil Robertson (+400)

The Aussie is a three-time winner of this event. Robertson won in 2013, 2016, and 2020. He beat Trump 10-9 in the 2020 final.

Shaun Murphy (+1100)

Murphy was the 2008 UK Championship winner. He was suffering defeat against Selby in the 2021 final.

Ding Junhui (+1600)

The most decorated foreign player in tournament history, China's Junhui, has played in the final five times. He was the UK Championship winner in 2005, 2009, and 2019. He lost back-to-back finals in 2022 and 2023.

John Higgins  (+1600)

Higgins won this event in 1998 and 2010. He lost in the final in 1996 and 2009.

Best Snooker Props To Play

Trump is the +100 betting pick in the snooker odds to reach the UK Championship final. Selby (+150) and Robertson (+160) are next in this betting market.

Xintong, despite his ranking as the co-second betting pick to win the event, is only getting odds of +200 to be one of the two players earning a spot in the final. Hawkins, last year's losing finalist, is getting a +800 betting line to be returning for another chance to win it all this year.

Xintong is the even-money favorite to win the fourth quarter of the draw and reach the semifinals. Selby is the -250 odds-on chalk to be the winner of the third quarter. And in the first quarter, Trump is the overwhelming -350 betting pick to emerge.

UK Championship Snooker Betting Pick

Trump is still seeking his first win of the 2025-26 season, after coming close twice. He was the runner-up at both the Northern Ireland Open and the Champion of Champions.
