  • What: UFC Fight Night
  • When: Saturday, March 24
  • Where: UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada

Rose Namajunas vs. Amanda Ribas Betting Pick

This women’s fight will be contested at flyweight, the division Namajunas recently moved up to. She’s currently a -220 betting favorite over Ribas. However, we’re much more interested in betting the Namajunas-Ribas over/under. Per the best UFC betting sites, here’s how it’s being pegged:

Over 4.5 Rounds+110+110+110
Under 4.5 Rounds-140-140-140

We’re skipping the moneyline bet because we don’t know who’s winning this bout. Namajunas is a wildcard. On one hand, she’s one of the best female fighters in UFC history with two wins against Zhang Weili, the best women’s fighter today. But Namajunas has also lost two in a row, albeit to pretty damn good fighters in Carla Esparza and Manon Fiorot.

But here’s why Namajunas gives us extra pause: she’s seemingly split from her longtime team. Trainer Trevor Wittman wasn’t in her corner for the Fiorot fight, and won’t be here either. That’s not something we like to see at this stage of her career now that she’s into her ‘30s and on a losing streak.

Though on paper, Namajunas is a more skilled fighter than Ribas. That’s no disrespect to Ribas, who’s very well-rounded. She’s a grappler at heart, however, Ribas has developed her striking skills as of late. The thing is, she’s hot and cold. Ribas has won and then lost three straight times (3-3). Namajunas, if she has her head on straight, really is an all-timer.

That’s a big if for Namajunas though. This is why we’re just betting the over. We expect a really close, technical fight — one that the judges will have to decide. Take the over in the main event!

Justin Tafa vs. Karl Williams Betting Pick

Heavyweights will co-main event the show. These moneyline odds are a tad closer, but Williams is the slight favorite over Tafa. Here’s where the betting lines stand:

FighterBovadaBetUSMyBookie
Karl Williams-180-180-180
Justin Tafa+150+150+150

Tafa is the prototypical heavyweight fighter. He’s going to swing and he’s going to swing some more. All seven of Tafa’s career wins are by way of knockout so that should tell you what you need to know if he has power or not. Tafa has never been taken down or attempted a takedown himself so he likes to keep fights standing up.

Williams couldn't be any more different. He’s the much bigger, taller fighter, but banging isn’t really his forte. No, Williams is more of a wrestler. He’s averaging four takedowns per fight in the UFC. Williams is on a six-fight streak but looked pretty awful last time out against Chase Sherman despite earning the decision.

To us, this fight has upset written all over it. Tafa is the way more dangerous fighter, and we think that matters in this one. Expect Tafa to piece up Williams with leg kicks and punches en route to an upset victory.

Edmen Shahbazyan vs. AJ Dobson Betting Pick

Our last pick of the night is on the Shahbazyan-Dobson over/under. Here again, we’re a little iffy on who wins, hence why we’ll just stick to betting the total rounds. Here’s how the oddsmaker have it set at:

OutcomeBovadaBetUSMyBookie
Over 2.5 Rounds+110+110+110
Under 2.5 Rounds-140-140-140

Shahbazyan is the -210 favorite to win. Once upon a time, Shahbazyan was a budding prospect with a perfect 11-0 record. But since then, he’s gone 1-4 and been TKO’d in all those losses. Shahbazyan is only 26 years old, but his career feels like it’s at a real crossroads.

Dobson is on the other side of this fight. The 32-year-old is a striker through and through. He lands 4.38 strikes per minute, just above Shahbazyan at 3.46. But here’s the difference between the two: Dobson has a better chin if this does become a stand-up fight.

We think this fight is finishing early. As we said, Shahbazyan is quite chiny, but Dobson has also been known to tire out. If that happens, he could be stopped as the fight wears on too. Either way, we’ll bank on the under in this one.
