When you think of the UFC, the first name you usually think of is Conor McGregor. He has been one of the most exciting and entertaining fighters to step into the octagon, and a popular pick for most sports bettors.
Over the past several years - since 2013 in fact, Conor ‘Notorious’ McGregor has risen to the top with his unique striking ability and his boisterous and extravagant showmanship. He not only can trash-talk with the best of them, but he has the skills and abilities to back up his words.
In his last 12 UFC fights, he’s recorded nineteen KO/TKO results, and 22 victories in 26 professional fights - which is impressive for a 31-year old in less than a decade. He briefly retired from fighting in March 2019, before coming back to MMA.
He returned to the octagon less than a year after retirement, to force a TKO in just 40 seconds against Donald Cerrone at UFC 246. But, for the third time in his career, we hear the announcement that Conor McGregor is retiring. But, it begs the question - is he really?
Hey guys I’ve decided to retire from fighting.
Thank you all for the amazing memories! What a ride it’s been!
Here is a picture of myself and my mother in Las Vegas post one of my World title wins!

COVID-19 has delayed all UFC activity so there have been no announcements of upcoming fights - even though Dana White claims to have a private island he wants to host UFC events during the pandemic.
While he's said he has retired, it could just as easily be yet another marketing campaign. Conor McGregor odds aren’t going to be visible on many sportsbooks for this reason.
Potential Conor McGregor Fights and Winners Odds
Conor McGregor is the star that he is attracting a lot of attention from promoters and managers as they all look to get a piece of the McGregor action. Potential fights void if not taking place before the end of 2020. The odds for potential Conor McGregor fights were last updated on June 10, 2020:
Floyd Mayweather Jr
Conor McGregor Odds: Next Competitor
Although he's technically retired, we still look into the possibilities of Conor McGregor’s next UFC opponent, and naturally, McGregor odds to win. Dana White was hinting that McGregor would likely fight in September 2020, only if that the coronavirus pandemic has been contained.
The biggest factor holding up McGregor from securing a fight is the fact most of his matchups are already set to fight. There is an endless list of fighters who want a piece of the Irishman, but he'll know who he wants and will likely wait until he gets it.
Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Conor McGregor Odds
Currently, with the pandemic shutting down all athletic operations and events for the foreseeable future, a huge wrench has been thrown into the UFC machine.
He was riding high off his UFC 246 victory over Donald Cerrone, and he has been fairly desperate for a Khabib rematch. We anticipated that this rematch would be a production in the making, and would take a long time to come to fruition and now with the retirement, we were right.
With Khabib being stranded in Russia due to the pandemic, and Gaethje (McGregor’s next prospective opponent) it leaves these two without a fight until at least September, and both without an opponent.
We aren’t really experts in matchmaking, but this seems too good to be true. Not only would this be a huge fight to pull in the crowds in the 2020 UFC season, but it also will have Dana White drooling at the financial potential for a fight of this calibre. White believes that McGregor vs. Khabib Part II will shatter pay-per-view records of all combat sports, including Mayweather vs Pacquiao and Mayweather vs. McGregor.
The recent theatrics from McGregor certainly hints that the Khabib vs McGregor fight could be closer than we think. McGregor has been steadily calling out Nurmagomedov on social media since returning to the UFC, egging him on for a rematch. But with him now retired again, will this all be in vain?
Justin Gaethje vs. Conor McGregor Odds
While it’s looking bleak for a UFC return anytime soon, Dana White is working tirelessly to secure a venue to have unsanctioned fight nights - the show must go on, even in the middle of a pandemic.
If UFC 249 goes ahead in April on a private island as White suggests, and Ferguson and Gaethje are on the card, it’s likely that a matchup between McGregor and Gaethje won’t happen in 2020.
However, UFC fans are speculating over a photo that McGregor’s coach Kavanaugh shared of his calendar that had April 18th as his only booking. The date that UFC 249 is supposed to happen. This sent fans into a frenzy, trying to predict what that meant.
The main conclusion is that McGregor vs Gaethje could replace the title fight, and Ferguson will wait for Nurmagomedov to finish Ramadan. Unlikely? Yes, but anything is possible at this point.
Jorge Masvidal vs. Conor McGregor Odds
Masvidal has been desperate for a big money fight against McGregor for years, calling him out through the duration of McGregor’s retirement.
He made an effort to show up to UFC 246 in the same robe that McGregor wore to the Mayweather vs. McGregor fight and has made numerous media statements about wanting to beat McGregor. Currently, neither fighter has a title, so it’s unlikely they’ll face each other anytime soon, but if Dana White gets really desperate for a matchup - he may have to cave and book the Masvidal vs. McGregor fight - even though it’s not a fight he wants to book.
This fight wouldn’t happen anytime soon due to the pandemic, but it could be an option in a few years unless McGregor retires for good.
