The Chennai Super Kings are the defending champions. Upon winning the 2023 final, the Super Kings also became the joint-most successful franchise in the tournament's history, joining the Mumbai Indians with five wins each.
Alongside the Mumbai Indians, the Super Kings are the joint favorites to win the title again in 2024. But they have the Gujarat Titans close behind in the betting. The Titans won the title in 2022. And but for an untimely rain interruption in the 2023 final, they may well have won back-to-back titles.
The Titans will feel aggrieved about how they lost last year’s final and will be looking to make up for it in the upcoming edition.
2024 IPL Winner betting
In the betting to win the 2024 IPL, the Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians are joint favorites at +425. Also expected to be competitive in 2024 are the Gujarat Titans, who are third-favorite at +600. Making up the top five in the cricket betting odds are the Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals, both at +700.
Outside of the leading franchises are the Lucknow Super Giants, Delhi Capitals, and Sunrisers Hyderabad, all at +1000. The final two franchises in the betting are the Punjab Kings at +1100 and the Kolkata Knight Riders at +1200.

IPL 2024: The main contenders
At the start of the 2023 IPL, CSK were out at +900, eighth in the betting. They finished ninth in the points table in 2022 and this, defending the title after winning it in 2021.
The team was in disarray during the 2022 season, with lots of infighting reported. So, to turn things around so quickly and come back to win the tournament outright was some achievement for captain MS Dhoni and head coach Stephen Fleming.
Three of the Super Kings' five IPL wins have come in the last six years, and two have been in the last three. They have the same core group of players and are not to be underestimated in the upcoming edition.
Also expected to do well in 2024 are the Mumbai Indians. But there is trouble brewing. Hardik Pandya was traded into the franchise from the Gujarat Titans in the off-season and was immediately made captain at the expense of Rohit Sharma.
Sharma has yet to publicly comment, but it is widely known that he is less than impressed with the decision. On paper, trading in Pandya looks like a good deal. But it remains to be seen how this all plays out behind the scenes.
Adding further to the intrigue is Pandya’s loss to the Gujarat Titans. The Titans have only existed for two years and already - under the captaincy of Pandya - have one IPL title in the bag.
As well as steering the Titans to the IPL title in their first-ever season, Pandya also led them to last year’s final. And in both 2022 and 2023, the Titans topped the points table in the group stage.
His loss is going to be huge for Gujarat.
Are any IPL Dark Horses worth betting on?
Sunrisers Hyderabad have gone big in an attempt to win the IPL in 2024. They finished bottom of the points table with four wins from 14 matches in 2023, so they have a lot of ground to make up.
In a bid to catch up, they splashed out a then-record 2.4 million US dollars on acquiring Pat Cummins and also invested heavily in his Aussie teammate, Travis Head. There is no guarantee that the signings will prove to be game-changers. But at odds of +1000, the Sunrisers are worthy of a small wager.
If nothing else, Cummins and Head will bring a winning mentality to the team. They will be teaming up with head coach Dan Vettori, who they will know well because he is also currently an assistant coach of the Australia men’s national team.
All this gives this bet a better chance of winning.

We just have to go for the Chennai Super Kings to win the IPL again in 2024. It’s clear what the plan is at Mumbai, but the trading of Hardik Pandya might cause too many ruptures within the setup for it to work this year. Next year, yes, but this year looks too soon.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore flatter to deceive every year, and there are now serious doubts about the Gujarat Titans following the departure of Hardik Pandya. All roads simply point towards another win for the Chennai Super Kings in the 2024 Indian Premier League.
