Colorado Race Tracks
Mile High Racing hosts live racing in the state of Colorado at Arapahoe Park. Though the track is relatively young compared to some other tracks in the country as it opened in 1984, it has already had an interesting and rich history. It went bankrupt shortly after opening and was reopened in 1992 to a warm reception.
Arapahoe Park is home to racing for Thoroughbreds, Quarter Horses and Arabians. The live racing schedule typically kicks off in late spring and runs through the end of summer. In 2016, the track hosted a total of 36 stakes races with $1.5 million in total purses.
Colorado Horse Races
The 400 yard sprint is part of the star-studded closing day card that Arapahoe Park puts on which features stakes races for all three breeds.
The top Thoroughbred race that Arapahoe Park hosts is the $100,000 Gold Rush Futurity. The race is also restricted to juveniles and is carded at six furlongs. For the Arabians, the track has several Grade 3 events including the Cobra Distaff and the Cobra Classic, each with a purse of $20,000.
Off Track Betting in Colorado
The Racing Division of the Colorado Department of Revenue controls horse racing and pari-mutuel betting across the state. Through the sanctioning of OTB locations, horse racing fans may place wagers on many of the biggest Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse events throughout the world.
