The Five moves that could define the 2026 NFL season
It's been another blockbuster offseason, with changes afoot across the league. Here are the five moves that matter most heading into the season:
Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams
Garrett broke the NFL record for single-season sacks with 23 last year, won back-to-back Defensive Player of the Year awards, and then the Browns, a franchise that had insisted all winter he wasn't going anywhere, shipped him to Los Angeles anyway. The Rams gave up a first-round pick in 2027, a second in 2028, a third in 2029, and talented young edge rusher Jared Verse to get him.
The cost is enormous, but the logic is hard to argue with. The Rams are competing for a Super Bowl this season, and they just added a future Hall of Famer. Combined with the Trent McDuffie acquisition earlier in the offseason, Los Angeles has put together a roster that looks genuinely frightening on both sides of the ball. At +700 on BetNow, the Rams are comfortably the market favourites
Trent McDuffie trade to the Los Angeles Rams
The Rams acquired McDuffie from the Chiefs in exchange for the 29th overall pick in the 2026 draft, a fifth-round pick, a sixth-round pick, and a 2027 third-rounder, and then immediately locked him up long-term. McDuffie and the Rams agreed to a record four-year, $124 million extension that includes $100 million guaranteed.
The significance cuts two ways. For the Rams, it plugs a genuine hole, their defense ranked 19th in passing allowed during their run to the NFC Championship Game last season. For the Chiefs, it signals a team quietly acknowledging that the dynasty window may be narrowing, trading away a key player to stockpile picks. Kansas City currently sit at +1500, a price that reflects a roster in transition.
Trey Hendrickson signs with the Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens had agreed to trade for Maxx Crosby, only to back out over concerns about his knee, a decision that left Baltimore looking desperate. Just hours after nixing the Crosby trade, the Ravens pivoted and signed Hendrickson instead. Over the past three seasons, Crosby had 32 sacks and Hendrickson had 39. Baltimore kept their draft picks and still landed one of the most productive pass rushers in football. The Ravens currently sit at +1000.
A.J. Brown traded to the New England Patriots
The Eagles traded Brown to New England, with a 2028 first-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick heading back to Philadelphia. It's a significant price, but one the Patriots thought was worth paying.
Quarterback Drake Maye is clearly the future of that franchise, and he's been working with a receiving corps that wasn't good enough. Brown, who turns 29 this summer, gives Maye a genuine alpha wide receiver, someone who can win contested catches, command double teams, and make life easier for a young quarterback still finding his feet. The New England Patriots currently sit as outsiders at +1700.
Kyler Murray signs with the Minnesota Vikings
Kyler Murray's arrival in Minnesota might just be the most interesting trade of the year. The Cardinals cut Murray while he was in the middle of his $230 million contract, a stunning move that left one of the league's more talented quarterbacks suddenly available.
The Vikings saw opportunity, by signing him to the veteran's minimum. On paper, Murray will compete with J.J. McCarthy for the starting job, but the situation sets up a fascinating dynamic in Minneapolis. If he wins the job and rediscovers the form that made him a former MVP candidate, Minnesota could be a genuine contender. Currently ranked as a longshot at +4500, The Vikings may just prove a lot of people wrong.

2026 NFL Division favourites
Here's a rundown of where we see the division races heading into the 2026 season:
AFC EAST — Buffalo Bills (-135)
The Bills are the favorites for AFC East, and it's not hard to see why. Josh Allen remains one of the best quarterbacks in the league, and they are last season's division winners. The only real challengers are the New England Patriots, at +150. Despite the drama the Bills tend to have in January, their regular season form tends to be consistent.
AFC NORTH — Baltimore Ravens (-130)
The Ravens are the only odds-on favourite in any division, which tells you how dominant Lamar Jackson makes a team look even before the season starts. Baltimore brutally missed out on the playoffs last year, after a missed field goal against the Steelers, and the market clearly views that as an anomaly rather than a trend. The signing of Hendrickson will be a worthwhile addition to what was a leaky defence, and new head coach Jesse Minter has inherited a roster built to compete immediately.
AFC SOUTH — Houston Texans (+150)
The Texans are favoured to win the AFC South, though it's a far more contested race than either the AFC East or North. C.J. Stroud continues to be the engine of everything Houston does, and the arrival of David Montgomery gives them a more complete ground game. The division is really a two-horse race between the Texans and the Jaguars, with Jacksonville offering the most realistic competition.
AFC WEST — Kansas City Chiefs (+175)
The Chiefs are favoured to win their division, but at +175, it's a tentative endorsement at best. Patrick Mahomes is working his way back from a torn ACL, with his availability for the start of the season still unclear. The McDuffie trade stripped the secondary of its best player, and Kansas City finished 6-11 last season.
