Manchester United are one of the most famous (if not the most famous) soccer teams in the world. Nicknamed “the Red Devils,” and playing out of the iconic Old Trafford stadium, Man Utd are one of the most successful teams in world soccer. Man Utd has enjoyed several periods of continued success, with the so-called Busby Years. Nothing, though, compares to the Alex Ferguson. United were completely dominant during Sir Alex’s reign. The title winning side of 1956 were labelled “the Busby Babes” as the average age of the squad was only 22-years-old. [+]

Sadly, the lives of eight of those players and those of 15 others were lost in the Munich air disaster on February 6, 1958 when the plane they were travelling on crashed while attempting to take off.

Another hugely successful period in the club’s history was when Sir Alex Ferguson was at the helm. Man Utd won 13 of their 20 First Division and Premier League titles under Ferguson, won the League Cup four times, the FA Cup six times (12 in total), the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, and the UEFA Champions League twice.

Since Ferguson retired at the end of the 2012/13 season Man Utd has gone through a transitional period that has seen them only qualify for the Champions League four times.

During the 2022-23 campaign, Erik Ten Haag took over as manager and has led the club back to the Champions League. Though a lack of summer signings has left the manager frustrated as he struggles to piece together such a messy squad.

Man Utd Online Betting Tips

Priced at +333 to win the league, Manchester United were second favorites behind Manchester City in 2016-17. They fell well short of that goal.

Mourinho will blame a litany of injuries for their downfalls, but it was a lack of making good on scoring opportunities that cost them most. They tied way too many home games against inferior opponents and will need to correct that trend to once again challenge for the title.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, after a brilliant season, badly injured his knee and won’t return until early January 2018. But how well will his recovery go considering he’s already deep into the twilight of his career. He is in incredible shape which will help get him back on the pitch but one has to wonder how effective he’ll be if, and when, he returns.

Mourinho is known for his defensive style and prides himself on having stingy defesnsive teams. Back the under in most United games until they figure out a way to score more goals. Even at home United struggle to score so keep that in mind when making your bets. They are extremely hard to beat, going more than 20 games undefeated during the 2015-16 season so think twice about betting on a United loss, even against the cream of the crop. They’re always competitive and Mourinho absolutely hates losing.

Mourinho’s gamble of putting his eggs in one basket paid off remarkably, as the Red Devils were able to win The Europa League, thus qualifying for the 2018-19 Champions League. Solely concentrating on the Europa League was a calculated risk, one that paid off handsomely.

Will the have a chance at the title in 2017-18? Absolutely. And they’re going to buy, buy and buy some more so expect a sharper team, especially on the offensive side of the ball in the upcoming campaigns.
