2023 Valspar Championship Preview

Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth lead the way at this week's field comprising of only four from the Official World Golf Ranking Top 20. Sam Burns is back-to-back champion while Matt Fitzpatrick, reigning U.S. Open champion, rounds out the top tier.

Burns secured his first Tour victory here in 2021 while Fitzpatrick finished T5 here a year ago with four consecutive sub-68 rounds.

This week's field also includes 2021 runner-up Keegan Bradley and Davis Riley, who fell in a playoff last year. Canadian Adam Hadwin is also a strong contender, winning the event in 2017.

The Course

The Copperhead Course, one of the PGA Tour's toughest courses, will host the tournament this week. This year the course is expected to play even more difficult due to the closer location of the rough to the greens.

Innisbrook is known for its long approach shots, with 50% of iron shots coming from 175 yards or longer. The Copperhead Course is renowned for its positional tee shots, as 11 of 13 require players to drive the ball into the same exact landing areas

The course is most renowned for "The Snake Pit," a three-hole stretch made up of two par-4s and a lengthy par-3.

Best Bets To Win 2023 Valspar Championship

Betting on golf is different than betting on other sports. I'd recommend checking out some of our betting strategies to take maximize your winnings. Unlike other sports, you don't want to usually put all of your eggs in one basket and bet on only one player to win.

After one bad round, your bet could be lost. One of the smartest strategies when betting on golf is to take multiple shots at picking a winner. Here's our best bets for golfers to win the 2023 Valspar Championship.

Jordan Spieth

Jordan Spieth is making his first appearance at the event since 2018, where he was a prior champion and has had four top-20 finishes in five starts. Spieth has been playing well with his irons lately, having posted two top-10s in his last four tournaments.

Spieth has a long history with the Valspar Championship. In 2013, he secured special temporary membership to the PGA Tour with a top-10 finish at the event.

Justin Thomas

Justin Thomas has competed in the tournament five times and missed the weekend just once. He has achieved four top 18 finishes, two of them being in the top 10. His best recorded finish is a solo third which he achieved last year after recording three consecutive rounds of 66.

In his past 8 rounds, he has been under par 7 times. Following his disappointing finish at The Players where he tied for 60th, he is likely to be aggressive this week.

Sam Burns

Burns has a strong affinity for Copperhead Golf Course, having won two consecutive titles here and leading the field in SG: Total per round.

His other two starts at Copperhead yielded a T12 and T30 finish respectively. He stands to become the first three-peat winner on the PGA Tour since 2009. Steve Stricker won John Deere Classic in 2009, 2010, and 2011.

This feels like Burns is back in his comfort zone, and considering his past success here, I feel comfortable backing Sam Burns to make history and win the Valspar Championship.
