Ludvig Aberg The Favorite to win the 2023 Sanderson Farms Championship

There might not be a lot of big names at the Sanderson Farms Championship this week, but it's still expected to be an entertaining tournament. The field consists of 144 golfers in total and the event will run from Thursday to Sunday. It's the first PGA Tour tourney since the Ryder Cup last week where Team Europe came out victorious. Five players in the top 50 of the FedEx Cup standings will play at the Country Club of Jackson, with Canadian Mackenzie Hughes the reigning champion. The favorite however is Ludvig Aberg, who just performed very well at the Ryder Cup. He sits at +1200 odds, while Stephan Jaeger (+1800), Eric Cole (+2000), Emiliano Grillo (+2500), and Beau Hossler (+2800) round out the top five contenders. Keep reading for the Sanderson Farms Championship picks.

Preview

Ludvig Aberg (+1200)

There is a chance the Swede does pull out of the tournament after participating in the Ryder Cup but if not, he's definitely one to watch in Jackson. The 23-year-old, who just turned pro this season, not only contributed a two-point performance in Rome but also just won on the DP World Tour. He'll be looking to carry that form onto the PGA Tour. Aberg is currently 136th in the FedEx Cup standings. He also had a 54-hole lead at the BMW Championship. With no shortage of confidence at the moment, expect Aberg to do well this weekend.

Stephan Jaeger (+1800)

Jaeger is no spring chicken at 34. He's played in 30 PGA Tour events this season, notching two top-10s and nine top-25 finishes. Not exactly great, but he's 56th in the FedEx Cup standings. While he's not usually a top dog, he's one of the better golfers at this event because the big names aren't playing. This is a chance for him to potentially notch another top-10 if not better.

Eric Cole (+2000)

Eric Cole just performed very well at the Fortinet Championship, finishing in fourth place.  That was his best showing for quite some time since locking down sixth spot at the RBC Championship earlier in the year. While Cole did miss the cut in this tournament last year, he's probably going to be named the PGA Tour Rookie of the Year. He's played in 31 events since the Sanderson Farms Championship and has clearly grown as a player since Jackson in 2022. He has four top-10 finishes this season. Not bad.

Keith Mitchell (+3000)

Mitchell was actually quite poor this season and definitely didn't live up to expectations. The 31-year-old is 64th in the FedEx Cup standings. That being said, Mitchell still finished top five on three occasions and in one of his most recent PGA Tour event, the 3M Open, he was fifth. Mitchell has never made the cut at CC Jackson though, which isn't exactly a great sign ahead of the tournament in Mississippi.

Beau Hossler (+2800)

Since July, Hossler has been killing it. He had three top-20 finishes in a row and was tied for sixth at the Barracuda Championship. Overall, he's collected three top-10 finishes and 11 top-25s. He was 20th at the FedEx Jude Championship and then 30th at the Fortinet Championship. There's definitely been some positive performances for Hossler and he should be in the mix later this week. Keep an eye on the former Texas Longhorn.

Sanderson Farms Championship Picks

It's always difficult to predict who will win a tournament like this. That's why it's best to bet on a couple of different golfers. I'm eyeing Cole after his fourth-place finish at the Fortinet Championship and also Aberg, the young Swede who is just due for a win. It's only a matter of time until it happens. Perhaps that first victory on the PGA Tour comes on Sunday in Mississippi.
