Atlas ended up taking home the crown last year, but as you can see they are decidedly out of this mix in 2022. And while oddsmakers have thoroughly favored Monterrey relative to other clubs, the field feels extremely wide open.

Regardless of which team you're leaning toward right now, keep an open mind as we get into our Liga MX futures best bets. You should also be double-checking these Liga MX betting odds until you actually place your wager. Ours are accurate entering Monday, September 5, and with nearly two months to go before the Apertura second leg final, linemakers are bound to make adjustments.

In the event your biggest concern is finding a place to bet on 2022 Liga MX futures, well, that's not a concern at all. Our reviews of the top online sportsbooks are set up so you can find and use all of the best 2022 Liga MX betting sites—not to mention all of the best betting sites for soccer in general.

Should Monterrey Still Lead the 2022 Liga MX Futures Field?

While there is no heavy favorite populating Liga MX futures, Monterrey is certainly making their claim.

Sure, they have been a little shaky on the road, collecting two losses and two draws. But they've also played in hostile territory more than just about anyone else so far. The hardest part of their schedule is already over, and they have one of the largest goal differentials, along with a Liga MX-leading points total, to show for it.

After a shaky stretch to start the spring, spanning early March through mid-April, Monterrey looks like a contender. They might even be a powerhouse.

Is Club America Now a Threat to Win It All...or Just a Paper Tiger?

Promoting Fernando Ortiz to head coach earlier this season may have been the best decision Club America could have ever made. Immediately thereafter, they rattled off six straight victories while outscoring opponents by 13 goals during said stretch.

That momentum has hardly faded since. Club America is one of just two teams with only one loss on the season. What's more, as of this writing, their playoff path is expected to be among the easiest around. They have an 85 percent chance of bagging a first-round bye, and they are about just as likely to finish no worse than second overall entering the postseason, according to FiveThirtyEight.

Better 2022 Liga MX Futures Bet: Pachuca or Tigres UANL

This decision is suddenly interesting. The reflexive answer a few months ago would've been Pachuca (+570). Many were hailing them as darlings of Liga MX futures after they squeaked out a March victory over Tigres UANL (+525).

Fast forward to now, and Tigres is actually considered the more likely Apertura winner. And it has everything to do with their defense. Tigres' ability to force turnovers at midfield, as well as their pristine goalkeeping, is basically unmatched. They have allowed just seven total goals—the fewest in Liga MX—through their first 11 matches.

Still, we have serious questions about their offense. Tigres struggles to generate looks outside of fast-break opportunities, a shortcoming that has come back to bite them when they're playing on the road.

For our money, we're rolling with the potential for a slightly larger payout in Pachuca. Their middle-of-the-field defense is just as good, and they've got more playmaking firepower on the offensive side.

Can Santos Laguna Make Some Noise in the Playoffs?

At the risk of sounding insulting, this is where Liga MX futures fall off a cliff.

Santos Laguna is laying the fifth-best odds to win it all, and yet they're still nearly a 12-to-1 underdog. That doesn't inspire much confidence—not even among epic risk-takers.

To be fair, Santos is one of two teams with just one loss, and they have a goal differential of plus-10. But they also have the makings of a mirage, given how much they've struggled to grind out victories away from home. On top of that, they're also dealing with a few key injuries and absences.

Official 2022 Liga MX Futures Pick: Who Will Win the Apertura Final?

Club America and Pachuca both garnered serious consideration here. But when push comes to shove, we can't bring ourselves to pick against Monterrey.

It's our belief that the concerns related to their road record are overblown. When it comes down to it, Monterrey is the rare blend of deep and versatile, and they are capable of pulling out victories even when they're committing a bunch of unforced eras on the offensive side.

Just so we're clear: We wouldn't call Monterrey a sure thing. That doesn't exist this year. But they're the closest we got to one, nevertheless.
