During his second term in office, Donald Trump has illustrated that political figures can come back from almost anything. For those, who do not know, McGreevey was once the Mayor of Woodbridge, New Jersey and eventually the Governor of New Jersey (2002-2004). He balanced the state budget in New Jersey without raising taxes for citizens all while increasing what the wealthy paid in. McGreevey teetered into political scandal and was always on the brink. Numerous conflicts of interest plagued an administration that actually got a lot of work done.

McGreevey managed to avoid resignation for over two years which was amazing given all the political and personal scandals in his life. The Cipel scandal where he was alleged to have committed sexual harassment and assault ultimately ended his run as Governor in August of 2004. McGreevey came out as gay, lost his marriage, and the later years revealed several more affairs including other mayors.

If we had to pick a more unlikely candidate to be a favorite for any position, it would be McGreevey. The last two decades have seen him reinvent himself. He is in his late 60's now and a changed person (so he claims). One who knows scandals can spot cheaters and already in early voting, McGreevey has caught a couple candidates trying to abuse the early voting.

What About Making A Pick?

What about making a pick in this salacious race? Jersey City could use a Mayor who can balance things. Maybe, just maybe, McGreevey has truly learned a lot in his time "away from politics". Bill O'Dea is a mess and James Solomon is not much better in the candidate pile. McGreevey is about 3-5 percent ahead in the polls in a crowded race. With the other candidates embroiled in their own short and long-term political skeletons, McGreevey seems like the most upright candidate here.

However, the US politics prop bets, include races like this because of the notoriety and underrated ramifications. Jersey City is right across the bridge from New York City. Solomon ran the downtown area through the boon of Jersey City which featured all sorts of shady backroom deals. Those have come to roost as residents get squeezed out of their own homes. Add in all the Menendez family connections with the other candidates and again McGreevey gains a little more attraction.

McGreevey should win this race on Election Day by a close margin.

Next Up Is Minneapolis

Just this week, Jacob Frey appeared poised to win another term as Mayor of Minneapolis. There is enough dissent to unseat him. However, Omar Fateh has not been able to take advantage of some openings in the polls, etc. Part of that is because of controversies like the Sabri Encampment where a shootout claimed one life and wounded several others. This is a crowded race with more than a dozen candidates.

The one thing Frey has, despite negative favorability, is the endorsement of Tim Walz. That still means something in the city. A crowded race helps the two term Mayor in his quest for a third term. Non-partisan races like this aid a candidate that almost 60% do not want to vote for. If Frey gets around 25-30% of the vote, that should be enough to win another term.

Why No One Wins In A Crowded Election

This is why no one wins in a crowded election. With so many candidates, Frey gets the nod here because influence and establishment progress his name upward literally.
