2022 World Cup Picks: USA Futures and Props

What: 2022 FIFA World Cup

When: November 21-December 18, 2022

Where: Qatar

The 2022 FIFA World Cup is just around the corner as the globe's top 32 nations are preparing for the coveted trip to Qatar in November. As the tournament is held every four years, this will be the first World Cup since the 2018 edition which was held in Russia. The 2022 World Cup will be the 22nd edition of the international soccer tournament. Before the action gets underway, make sure to check out our best World Cup betting tips and tricks.

The World Cup's preliminary round divides the 32 teams into various groups. There are a total of eight groups consisting of four teams each in the group stages. The groups are labeled A-H, and teams will play opposing sides within their group during that round of play. The United States is in Group B, joined by the likes of England, Iran, and Wales. That means that the USA will have to face all three of those teams in the opening round of the tournament, and need to finish among the top two seeds in the group in order to advance to the later stages. The United States' first match will be on November 21 against Wales. We'll take a look at how the books project the USA to fare in the 2022 World Cup, including their chances to win and what stage they will be eliminated in. Before doing that, check out some of the best soccer betting websites ahead of the tournament in Qatar.

World Cup: Odds to Win

In terms of their chances of winning the 2022 World Cup, the United States (+10000) and Wales (+15000) are both considered significant long shots. With tournament favorites such as Brazil (+400), France (+600), and Argentina (+700) looming large ahead of the November showcase, it's hard to imagine an underdog like the USA or Wales pulling off a major upset in that regard. That doesn't mean they can't make some noise in the group stages. And that will all start on November 21 when the USA and Wales square off in their first group-stage matchup.

Team USA Preview

USApk (-124)+160O2 (-124)
Walespk (+104)+204U2 (-124)

Heading into their first World Cup matchup, the USA is slightly favored over Wales. At (+160) the books are suggesting that the most likely outcome in terms of the Moneyline would be a USA victory, though a Wales outright win (+2o4) or a draw (+250) aren't far behind in terms of their odds. Additionally, the over is set at 2 goals (-124).

The USA disappointingly missed out on the 2018 World Cup, so the return to the tournament in 2022 will mark the end of an eight-year drought. The USA is led by a mix of MLS standouts and international up-and-comers. Most notably, Chelsea's Christian Pulisic, Juventus' Weston McKennie, and Borussia Dortmund's Giovanni Reyna figure to play important roles for the USA during the 2022 World Cup. They're joined by fellow stars Tyler Adams, Sergino Dest, Brenden Aaronson, Timothy Weah, and Antonee Robinson. The USA is a young team but has plenty of potential. The USA's most recent run of international play consisted of six matches. The team won two games, tied three, and lost one. However, their most recent three games resulted in two draws and a loss, with the USA scoring just one total goal in those three games.

In terms of the USA's overall tournament outlook, their +10000 odds indicate the chances of them winning the World Cup are incredibly slim. That doesn't mean there aren't intriguing betting options for the USA at the 2022 World Cup, however. Bettors can also wager on what round they think the USA will be eliminated from the World Cup, and there could be some strong value there.

USA Stage of Elimination Props

Group Stage-125
Round of 16+175

As it stands, the United States is considered unlikely to make a deep run in the tournament. The books have them listed at (-125) to be eliminated in the group stages, however, that still leaves them as Group B's second favorite behind England. Wales (-145) and Iran (-500) are both considered more likely to be bounced during the group stages.

Should the USA advance to the Round of 16, their odds to be eliminated in that round rise to (+175). The matchup they face in the Round of 16 remains unclear, but the books offer strong value for a second-stage exit for the USA. Considering the top teams they could wind up being paired with for the Round of 16, there's a strong chance that the USA's World Cup run doesn't advance beyond that point.

Looking further forward, if the USA can stun the world and make a deep run, their odds of elimination in the subsequent rounds would be (+800) in the Quarter-finals, (+2500) in the Semi-finals, (+6000) to be the tournament's runner-up, and of course, (+10000) to win the 2022 World Cup outright. As represented by the odds, these outcomes are all considered to be tremendous longshots, with the US possessing a minimal chance of making a run into these stages.

USA World Cup Pick

Betting on the USA to win the World Cup is naturally a huge risk, but for fans still trying to get in on the 2022 World Cup action this winter, this is the best pick to make regarding the USA. The USA to be eliminated in the Round of 16 (+175) provides the best value in terms of odds and also feels like the most realistic outcome for the Americans. The tournament only stands to get tougher as teams progress through the later stages, but with a fairly easy group during the opening round of play, the USA shouldn't have too much difficulty advancing into the Round of 16. After that, their chances of winning decrease tremendously.
