San Diego FC vs Portland Timbers
San Diego FC (-170) is a heavy money-line favorite in Snapdragon Stadium, where they maintained a 7-5-5 record this season. The first-year expansion team was actually much better on the road (12-4-1), finishing with the top record in the Western Conference with 63 points.
San Diego defeated the Timbers 4-0 on Decision Day and 2-1 in their playoff opener before losing in agonizing fashion on Sunday. Portland (+380) is a huge longshot to advance to the Conference Semifinals, but magic could be in the air following Gage Guerra’s Game 2 heroics.

Guerra plays the hero
After entering in the 86th minute, Gage Guerra headed in a cross eight minutes into stoppage time to tie the game at 2-2. Antony Alves Santos then scored the winner in a penalty-kick shootout after Jeppe Tverskov hit the crossbar.
Earlier in the match, Kristoffer Velde scored his second goal of the postseason for the Timbers. Antony has also registered an assist in consecutive games. Following the victory, Portland is 12-8-8 all time in the playoffs.
All the pressure on San Diego
San Diego FC set a new MLS record for expansion teams with the most points (63) and wins (19) in their inaugural season. Anders Dreyer was also named MLS Newcomer of the Year after collecting 38 goal contributions (19g/19a) during his debut season.
However, the pressure will be on the 27-year-old Danish international and all of his teammates in Game 3. “Tonight, we went into the game with no fear, and that’s what we’re going to do next week in San Diego,” said Timbers head coach Phil Neville.

San Diego FC vs Portland Timbers Picks
San Diego FC is the deeper and more talented squad, but the Timbers are fighting hard. In addition to stealing Game 2 late, Portland only lost Game 1 by a 2-1 margin despite playing down a man for the final 24 minutes of the match.
San Diego FC has only been mediocre at home this season, and fans inside Snapdragon Stadium will most certainly be nervous on Sunday. At almost 4-1 odds, we'll roll the dice with the Portland Timbers (+380) in a massive round one upset.
