Germany (+450)

The defending champions will enjoy the luxury of playing in a watered-down Group F, which also includes Mexico, Sweden and Korea Republic. The Germans have 4 total World Cups and could tie Brazil for the most ever with another win in 2018. Oddsmakers have Germany as the clear-cut frontrunners to repeat as World Cup champions at +450. The Germans are stacked with offensive talent, but their biggest threat will be midfielder Toni Kroos, who was also an integral piece during the country’s 2014 run.

Brazil (+500)

Three of the last World Cup champions have been European countries — Italy (2006), Spain (2010) and Germany (2014). Is it the year Brazil puts South America back on the map? Bovada is pegging the Brazilians as +500 favorites, right behind Germany. Brazil too has it quite easy in a Group E that also consists of Serbia, Switzerland and Costa Rica. Paris Saint-Germain star forward Neymar will be the determining factor on whether Brazil goes the distance or if the country falls short of World Cup glory once again.

France (+600)

Didier Deschamps has Les Bleus playing its best soccer since the club won the World Cup nearly 20 years ago. After a remarkable 2016 run in which France finished second at the European Championship, the club will be looking to move back to the top of the soccer world in 2018. At +600, France is a legitimate contender, as proved at Euro 2016 when they eliminated Germany to reach the championship game. With striker Olivier Giroud and forward Antoine Griezmann up front, the French will be big time threats.

Spain (+750)

Don’t count out Spain, regardless the international competition. Skipper Sergio Ramos will anchor a stingy defense that will be hard to score on as the Spaniards are pegged at +750 to take the championship outright. Spain finds itself in the so-called Group of Death with Portugal, Morocco and Iran. David De Gea, arguably the best goalkeeper in the world, will be the last line of defense for Spain, which would could certainly make some noise in Russia in 2018.

Argentina (+800)

The only thing missing from Lionel Messi’s incredible soccer resume is a World Cup title. It’s what officially separates the best players from the rest of the pack and what cemented both Maradonna and Pele as the greatest footballers of all time. At +800, Argentina is a longshot to win the World Cup, but we all remember how close Messi and Co. got in 2014 when they fell short in the final to Germany. This will probably be Messi’s last chance at glory so expect another deep run.

England (+1600)

It’s been more than 50 years since England has tasted World Cup glory. As +1600, England coasted through qualifying but now find themselves in a difficult Group G with Belgium. There will be no room for error for striker Harry Kane, who has struggled to transfer his club success over to the international stage in the past. If Kane can be the dominant scorer he is capable of being, England will do great things.
