This year will be the 87th edition of the Masters tournament and the first major tournament of 2023.
Given the star-studded field, this year's Masters appears to be a wide-open competition.

The Masters presents a stark contrast to the swing-season tournaments, featuring only about 75 golfers who are truly competitive and leaving little room for surprises. One intriguing aspect of the tournament is the return of LIV golfers, who will face a different level of competition and format.

Augusta National will be playing the longest it has ever played in its storied history, with new tee boxes stretching the course out to its limits. At Par 72 and just over 7,500 yards, it now slots into the top 10 longest courses on tour.
The Par 4s on this course are some of the longest and most challenging on tour, while the Par 5s represent the best birdie chances. Generally, players who can capitalize on the Par 5s and par the rest of the holes find themselves in the mix come the weekend.
Augusta National has several narratives surrounding it, including the belief that it favors right-to-left ball flight and sets up well for lefties. While not untrue, these beliefs are widely held, and there may not be much value in them.
The course also features substantial elevation changes and undulations, including more sidehill lies in the fairway than players usually face. This puts a premium on shotmaking and adaptability, making Augusta not a point-and-shoot, station-to-station golf course, but not a real puzzle either.

Jon Rahm
Rahm's track record at the Masters is impressive, boasting four top-10 finishes and never finishing worse than T-27 in his six appearances. This makes him a strong candidate for a potential win this week, checking off all the boxes you want in a contender.
Despite already winning three times this year, he has dropped to third on most oddsmaker's boards, trailing Scheffler and McIlroy. While it makes sense for Scheffler to be favored over Rahm, it's questionable for McIlroy to have better odds.
With the third-best odds at +1000, you will want to lock this bet in as fast as you can because Jon Rahm is too talented of a player to have those odds.
I would recommend betting on Jon Rahm to win the 2023 Masters at +1000 odds.
Patrick Cantlay
Patrick Cantlay is one of the best players on the Tour without a victory at a major. However, that could change this week. Although Cantlay has not lived up to expectations at majors during his career, his recent progress makes him a great bet this week.
His enormous talent was on display as he finished 2022 with strong performances in the last two majors. He finished T14 at the U.S. Open and an eighth-place finish at The Open.
He will be looking to maximize the upside he showed at the course in 2019 when he finished T9. Cantlay at +1800 odds seems to indicate the oddsmaker's faith in Patrick Cantlay finally performing well enough to win a major.
I'm not as convinced and I cannot recommend betting on Cantlay at +1800 odds.
Collin Morikawa
Morikawa's 5th place finish at Augusta National last year was the lone bright spot in an otherwise disappointing season for the two-time major champion.
Despite grappling with his swing and ball flight, it was his putter that proved to be even more of a letdown than expected.
Fortunately, his iron game has remained stellar this year, following his signature style. However, his chances of competing at the Masters this year hinge on whether his unreliable putter has improved.
Morikawa's steady improvement at this course from T44 in 2020 to T18 in 2021 and last year to 5th is a strong indicator of success.
I love the value of +3000 for Morikawa. The oddsmakers are pricing in his inconsistency on the tour and neglecting his success at this course.
This is my favorite long-shot bet for the Masters, I would recommend betting on Collin Morikawa to win the Masters at +3000 odds.
