FedEx St Jude Championship Betting Picks; Three Players To Follow

The FedEx Cup playoffs get underway this week, so with 125 of the world's best golfers assembling in Memphis, we take a look at the field and bring you our free FedEx St Jude Championship betting picks.

Just when you thought all of the best golf competitions of the year were done and dusted, up pops the FedEx Cup playoffs. The playoffs don’t come with the prestige of a major championship, but they also don’t come with the money that the playoffs do.

St Judes is the first of three FedEx Cup events. The BMW Championship follows next week and then the Tour Championship in Atlanta the week after. In total, there is a prize fund of $75 million. With the winner of the Tour Championship pocketing $18 million alone.

  • The FedEx St Jude is the first of three FedEx playoff events
  • The Top 125 players in the FedEx rankings are eligible to play
  • This replaces the competition formally known as the Northern Trust

But as is ever the case these days, the biggest golf events are all being overshadowed by events elsewhere, namely involving LIV Golf. And things are no different this week. With the St Jude’s being overshadowed by eleven LIV golfers banned from the PGA tour, who are currently contesting their suspensions from the PGA tour in court.

Three of those eleven players, Talor Gooch, Hudson Swafford, and Matt Jones, are all seeking to have the bans lifted temporarily to allow them to compete this week, so they may affect the betting if they get reinstated. But for now, we’ll assume it’s the 125 players currently lining up that will start on Thursday.

FedEx St Jude Championship; All You Need To Know

The top 125 players in the FedEx standings are eligible to play this event, meaning all of the best players (not banned) will be competing.

The FedEx St Jude Championship is at the TPC Southwind near Memphis in Tennessee. Opening in 1988, the course has been hosting PGA tour events since 1989. It is a par 70, and 7,243 yards in length.

  • What; 2022 FedEx St Jude Championship
  • Where; TPC, Memphis, Tennessee
  • When; Thursday, August 11th, 2022 - Sunday, August 14th, 2022

The course has tree-lined fairways and smaller greens. Water comes into play on nine of the holes, so it’s more suited to the accurate players than the big hitters. This is reflected in the latest golf betting odds to win the tournament.

Who Is the Favorite To Win the FedEx St Jude Championship?

The betting favorite with the best online sportsbooks to win the FedEx St Jude Championship is Rory McIlroy at +1100. McIlroy has been one of the hottest players on the circuit in recent weeks, despite not landing the wins he might have expected.

McIlroy is followed in the online golf betting by Scottie Scheffler at +1500, with both Patrick Cantlay and Cameron Smith next at +1800. Then follows Justin Thomas at +2000, which is also the same odds that are available on Jon Rahm and Xander Schauffele.

FedEx St Jude Championship Betting Picks

Matt Fitzpatrick +2200

Fitzpatrick won his first major with his victory in the US Open at Brookline in June. The Sheffield golfer is looking to become the third man in 5 years to follow up a US Open win with one at TPC Southwind.

He has finished fourth and sixth here in his last three years and has enjoyed a good year all around in 2022. As well as his US Open win, Fitzpatrick finished T10 in the Canadian Open, T6 in the Scottish Open, and T21 in the British Open championship.

At +2200 I’m happy to make Matt Fitzpatrick one of my betting picks to win the St Jude Championship.

Xander Schauffele +2000

Fans of Xander Schauffele might argue that their guy is in better form, and has more chance of winning, and I wouldn’t be disagreeing with them. Schauffele has won two of his previous three events, the Travelers Championship in June, and the Scottish Open last month. He also finished T15 in the Open Championship.

The world number 4 is slightly shorter than Fitzpatrick. But at +2000, I’m happy to make Xander Schauffele one of my betting picks.

Billy Horschel +5000

Just time for one outside bet to throw into the mix, and I’m going for Billy Horschel at +5000. Horschel has finished in the Top 10 five times at this venue in the past, and at number 15 in the world, he’s enjoying a stellar season.

In the recent British Open, he finished T21 at St Andrew’s, in what was his best finish ever at the competition. He also shot in the 60s in all four of his rounds in the Wyndham Championship last week. Not tournament winning form, but a decent enough showing that suggests he could be worth a bet on the win, or even a top 10 finish.
