It’s rare for an elite, franchise-level quarterback to be dealt from his team right in the prime of his career — but that’s exactly what happened in Houston. The team traded away the disgruntled and controversial Deshaun Watson to Cleveland in the 2022 offseason. Now the franchise is left to rebuild with a king’s ransom of draft picks. As a bettor, what should you do? We’re going to try to help you out throughout this page which has everything you need to bet on Texans — including expert tips from us later on.

How To Bet On Houston Texas
We don’t want you blindly jumping into just any Houston Texas betting lines. No, no, you must understand what you’re getting into. Here are the five wager types you’ll come across at the top betting sites for NFL:
Houston Texans Moneyline
The most easy-to-understand Texans odds will be the moneyline. This bet is as simple as picking the straight-up winner in the Texans game, either them or their opponent. Houston odds will fluctuate wildly from game to game, and don’t be surprised to see the Texans as underdogs more times than not.
Houston Texans Spread
Spreads are much more nuanced bets than moneylines. That’s because there’s a spread associated with both teams. The spread is just a “handicap” they must play the game with. If Texans are favored to win, then they must do so by a bigger margin than what their spread is. But if they’re underdogs, Houston must either get an upset win or lose by less than their handicap in order to cover the spread.
Houston Texans Over/Under
We can understand if you’d rather not bet on Houston winning or not given their inconsistent ways. In that case, the next best Texans betting option might be the over/under. Bookies will set a number of points Houston and its opponent will combine for. As a bettor, you’re simply picking whether that actual number ends up higher (over) or lower (under) than that pre-set number.
Houston Texans Props
Props are the most open-ended of Texans betting odds because there are so many available and each has a different purpose. Which player scores the first touchdown? Over/under on pass completions? Will there be a defensive touchdown? These are all outcomes that would be available in the prop market. Think of props as side bets, usually on statistical occurrences within a game.
Houston Texans Futures
As the name indicates, futures are long-term plays. Think past one game and more on the entire season. Prime examples of futures are team titles (division, conference, or Super Bowl) and player awards (MVP, rookie of the Year, etc.).
Houston Texans Online Betting Tips
If you want to win Texans bets more often than you lose, then you can’t just “wing it.” No, you’ll need an actual betting strategy that can be employed over and over again. We have a few suggestions to include in this strategy:
- Compare matchups: one mistake we see repeated over and over by bettors is evaluating teams based on how they played one single opponent, rather than evaluating the next matchup. Say the Texans lost to 20 by the Dolphins recently and now face the Raiders. If the Raiders played the Dolphins and only lost by three, the lazy assumption is that Vegas is better than Houston based on that common opponent. Folks, this logic is terrible and ignores that the Texans match up differently with every team. Maybe Miami had an imposing run game that exploited Houston’s weakness in defending the run. That doesn’t mean the Raiders will do the same, especially if their run attack is only so-so. We urge you to compare strengths and weaknesses on a game-to-game level. This will better tell you how Houston will fare in their next game.
- Never chase losses: this tip applies NFL-wide, not just to the Texans. When you lose in betting — which is inevitable — the last thing you want to do is make the next bet with the goal of “making up” the prior loss. When you do that, you’re betting because of emotions, not because you actually think it’s a good bet. More times than not, this is a recipe for disaster. If a loss is getting to you emotionally, which it likely will at some point, it’s best to take some time off before forcing another bet. You don’t want one loss to compound into more.
- There’s more parity in the NFL than you think: Houston likely won’t be an on-field contender anytime soon, but that doesn’t mean betting against them ALL the time is a smart betting strategy either. The difference between a playoff-caliber team and one picking in the top 5 of the NFL Draft (probably where the Texans slide into) is actually quite small. On any given Sunday, with the right play or injury, this top-5-picking team can either upset the playoff opponent or at the very least, cover the spread. So again, as we pointed out in tip No. 1, compare matchups rather than just betting on reputation alone.
Houston Texans History
In the late '90s, the NFL began exploring options for an expansion team that would round out the league to an even 32 teams (it had been at 31). Options for the new team includes Los Angeles, Toronto, and Houston. After a strong push by billionaire Bob McNair, NFL awarded the newest team to Houston in 1999. The Texans' nickname was chosen in 2000 and the team began to play in 20002.
Houston won its first-ever matchup against in-state rival, Dallas. It marked the first time that an expansion team won its first game since 1961. Unfortunately, the team tolled in mediocrity most of the decade. The franchise would not make its first playoff appearance until 2011. Five more postseason appearances would follow in the next eight years — a healthy stretch of success. Four of those appearances ended in the divisional round of the playoffs. To this day, the Texans have never competed in the AFC title game, little less the Super Bowl.
The team is in full rebuild mode right now. Former franchise centerpieces like J.J. Watt and Deshaun Watson were recently traded away, giving the Texans a bevy of NFL Draft picks. How they use them will determine if Houston can return to the playoffs or remain bottom-feeders.
The first and only NFL player to join the Texans' Ring of Honor is wide receiver, Andre Johnson. As the third overall draft pick in 2003, Johnson spent 11 years with Houston. In seven of those years, Johnson was a Pro Bowl choice. Team owner Bob McNair became the second person inducted into the Ring of Honor in 2019 (he died the year before that).
Houston Texans Odds To Win Super Bowl
Let’s be completely honest, you’re fooling yourself if you think a Houston Texans Super Bowl win is happening anytime soon. This team is in full rebuild mode post-Watson and won’t be serious contenders for the near future. They do have a treasure trove of draft picks, though, which could speed up the rebuilding process
Of course, getting the quarterback position should be the first order of business. Until Houston has a long-term answer there, we’d stay far, far away from the Texans Super Bowl betting odds. And honestly, you saw with Watson, you still have to build around an elite QB to have a chance in this league. Houston never truly contended for a title, even with a prime Watson.
