Best Value Bets

Patrick Reed (+3300)

The drama hasn't just followed Patrick Reed over the past year. It has ridden his back. Allegations tainted his 2019 season, and he hasn't won a main event tournament since the 2018 Masters.

Still, he's working off a February victory at the WGC-Mexico Championship, and he consistently contends for top spots through the first three rounds of tournaments, even when he doesn't win. At +3300, he's worth a roll of the dice.

Brooks Koepka (+4000)

Though Brooks Koepka missed the cut of his last major appearance by shooting an 81 in the second round, he shouldn't be counted out at The Players Championship. He had one of the hottest seasons in 2018 and put together a victor's push at the 2019 Bethpage Black.

If he were laying a +2000 or worse, it would be different. But at 40-to-1 odds, he's worth an investment.

Abraham Ancer (+8000)

Abraham Ancer is a gut-feeling sleeper. He played very well through the first three rounds of The Players Championship in 2019 and the 2019 PGA Championship.

Last year, through 54 holes at this event, he led the field in birdies. A final-round collapse hurt him, but with experience under his belt now, he's a bigger threat to win.

Scottie Scheffler (+10000)

Bettors are already jumping on Scottie Scheffler. He opened as a +12500 only to now land at +10000.

The reason? Scheffler has three top-15 finishes in 2020 alone. He struggles to put together four rounds of consistent scores, but the distance he generates on his drives sets up him for promising short games.

Can Rory McIlroy (+650) Repeat as the Champ?

The short answer here is yes. He's essentially guaranteed a top-10 finish.

Sure, the last player to win this event in back-to-back years was Adam Scott...in 2005. Whatever. McIlroy is working on seven straight top-five finishes. That's a real stat.

Don't be afraid to side with the favorite this year.

The Players Championship Prediction

We're not journeying too far off the beaten path for this one. Jon Rahm is our guy at +1200.

For this course specifically, we value his precision on drives. He rates as one of golf's most effective hitters between 150 to 200 yards, and that should serve him well in this tournament, much as it did for McIlroy last year.

OSB Prediction: Jon Rahm (+1200)
