Betting On Kansas City Chiefs Online

Renowned sports team owner Lamar Hunt founded the Chiefs in 1959. In its founding years, the Chiefs called Dallas home and went with the team name Texans (not to be confused with the current NFL franchise, the Houston Texans). After relocating to Kansas City in 1963, the team adopted its new name in honour of Harold Roe Bartle, the city’s mayor at the time. Throughout the 1960s, the Chiefs lived up to their name by consistently being the top team in the AFL, winning championships in 1962, 1966, and 1969. [+]

After a successful decade, things slowed down for the Chiefs during the 1970s and 1980s. During these two decades, Kansas City made only two postseason appearances, in 1971 and 1986, even with skilful players like Willie Lanier. Despite two decades of decline, the Chiefs returned to their position of power in the 1990s and 2000s with notable players on the roster such as Joe Montana, Marcus Allen, Priest Holmes, and Tony Gonzalez.

Despite having won three AFL championships, Kansas City is still searching for its first Super Bowl victory. The playoff drought finally came to an end in 2015.

Len Dawson, who played with the Chiefs from 1962 to 1975, still holds the franchise record for passing yards with 28,507 and touchdowns, with 237. Future Hall of Fame tight end Gonzalez spent 11 seasons with the Chiefs and is the club’s all-time receiving leader with 10,940.

Kansas City Chiefs Online Betting Tips

A late-season surge helped the Kansas City Chiefs vault into first in the AFC West and eventually win the division in 2016. The Chiefs finished 12-2 to secure the AFC West crown, but more importantly the club went undefeated against divisional opponents. The club also posted an impressive 9-3 record against AFC teams.

The Chiefs were middle of the pack in offense in 2016 but boasted one of the strongest defensive units in the AFC. Kansas City’s defense allowed 311 points against — only the defending champion New England Patriots (250) and the Denver Broncos (297) allowed fewer in the conference.

Pro Bowl linebacker Dee Ford recorded 10 sacks in 2016, which ranked seventh overall in the league. The Chiefs were a hard team to score on in general as the club averaged 19.4 points against per game in 2016.

Kansas City relied a little too much on its defense to win games, but it has worked despite generating on average 343 all-purpose yards per game in 2016 — a mark that ranked 20th out of 32 teams in the NFL. The Chiefs moved on from oft-injured running back Jamaal Charles, who happened to join their division rivals in Denver. Instead, the Chiefs will hand the ball off to Spencer Ware to start the season in 2017.

The race to first in the AFC West will once again be wide open as the Chiefs will have to contend against an improved Oakland Raiders roster. You can also never count out the Denver Broncos, who in 2015 won the Super Bowl.

The Chiefs will be tested right out of the gate as they open the season on Sept. 7 against the defending champion Patriots on the road.

BetOnline has set Kansas City’s projected win mark at 9.5 and while the opener will be a challenge, the Chiefs’ schedule eases up a bit in the next few weeks against the Philadelphia Eagles, Los Angeles Chargers and Washington Redskins. Take the over on BetOnline’s early over/under line of 9.5 wins.
