2024 Masters Picks: Scottie Scheffler Still Favored Heading Into Day 2
  • What: 2024 Masters
  • When: April 11th-14th
  • Where: Augusta National Golf Course

The 2024 Masters is underway, but Day 1 of the prestigious tournament was halted due to weather and eventually suspended. That means the opening round will conclude on Friday along with a full second round as well. As things stand,  Bryson DeChambeau is at the top of the leaderboard at -7, but favorite Scottie Scheffler isn't far behind him at -6. And heading into Friday, Scheffler, arguably the best golfer in the world, remains a +160 favorite to put on the Green Jacket on Sunday. DeChambeau meanwhile sits at +550, while Max Homa (+1600), Rory McIlroy (+1700), Ludvig Aberg (+2200), and Brooks Koepka (+2500) remain in the mix after performing well on the opening day. Below, find the 2024 Masters picks.

Some big names didn't do well in the first portion of the opening round including Brooks Koepka and reigning champion Jon Rahm. A lot can change in the next couple of days, but one thing is for certain and that's Scheffler producing the goods.

Scottie Scheffler

Scheffler came out ready for business on Thursday at Augusta, sinking six birdies. Ultimately, Scheffler didn't have a single bogey in his first round. The world No. 1 is on fire as of late, just winning back-to-back tournaments at the Arnold Palmer and the PLAYERS Championship before a second place finish at the Houston Open. Scheffler has been in the top-10 of every single PGA event this year except for one. Scheffler was 10th at last year's edition of the Masters and has put himself in a good position heading into day 2. Something to keep in mind however is that Scheffler said he would leave Augusta if his wife goes into labor. That could throw a wrench into the plans of many sports bettors.

Bryson DeChambeau

Remember when DeChambeau claimed Augusta National wasn't long enough for his game? He's said some outlandish things over the years, but the LIV Golf star did shine in the opening round and currently leads the way. He had birdies on his first three holes before another five on the back nine holes. DeChambeau has never had much success at the Masters, never finishing above 21st. That being said, he looks to be in contention this time around. It will be interesting to see if he can keep his composure across the next two days.

Max Homa

Homa is tied for fourth right now at -4 and definitely has a chance to win it all. He's never captured a major title and was 43rd at Augusta a year ago. He has an average finish of 46th here across the last four tournaments. In the PGA, he's in respectable form, earning two top-20 finishes in his last four tournaments. Homa is definitely on track for his best Masters finish as long as things don't unravel on Day 2.

Rory McIlroy

McIlroy is looking for the Grand Slam of Majors. He's won every single one except the Masters but he didn't do great on day 1, currently sitting in 17th at -1. The Northern Ireland native isn't having a great season overall in the PGA but we know he does tend to turn up for the big events. His last win at a major came way back in 2014, so McIlroy is definitely due.

Brooks Koepka

Koepka made the jump to LIV Golf in late 2022 then proceeded to finish second at last year's Masters, proving he's still one of the best golfers around. He's won five majors in his career and took home the ultimate prize at the 23' PGA Championship. Koepka's opening round was halted on hole 13 due to weather. He sits even at the moment, tied for 33rd. There's still tons of time for Koepka to work his way up the leaderboard, but Friday will be a huge day for him.

2024 Masters Picks

A lot can still change heading into Day 2 because some golfers didn't even finish their first. But, from the get-go, my pick has been Scheffler because he is truly that good. I still expect him to put on the Green Jacket on Sunday.
