Justin Fields and Chicago Bears Look Primed to Upset Atlanta Falcons in Week 11

On the heels of a crunch-time loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 10, oddsmakers seem like they're a little down on the Chicago Bears in their Week 11 matchup with the Atlanta Falcons this Sunday, November 20, at 1 p.m. EST. We understand the sentiment on some level.

Sophomore quarterback Justin Fields has made a leap for the Bears, but he's still prone to questionable decision-making later in games, and the Falcons themselves have mostly obliterated expectations. Betting against experience is almost always considered the safer play.

Of course, there's always the possibility Chicago pulls off the upset on the road. After all, prior to that loss against Detroit, the Bears were shocking all of the best online NFL betting sites with their offensive play and ability to hang against superior opponents. Should Week 11 be any different? Especially when the Falcons seem like they're fading? Let's investigate.

First, however, here are the latest NFL online betting odds for all of the games taking place in Week 11, including Chicago Bears vs. Atlanta Falcons, courtesy of our friends over at Bovada:

So, can the Bears pull off the moneyline upset over the Falcons? Which team will cover the point spread? And will the Falcons and Bears cover the over or the under? Our answers are below.

The Chicago Bears are a Good Underdog Bet Against the Atlanta Falcons

Believe it or not, even though the Falcons (4-6) have a better record than the Bears (3-7), we're slightly taken aback that Atlanta is so thoroughly favored.

It certainly helps that the Falcons are playing at home, where they have won three of their past four games and generally been an offensive surprise. Then again, Atlanta's strong offensive campaign is officially under siege. They rank 12th in points scored per game, but quarterback Marcus Mariota has looked out of sorts the past two weeks—like someone who has slowed down a bunch in a very short amount of time.

The end result hasn't been good. The Falcons have combined to score 31 points in those two contests, both of which they lost. Facing the Bears defense, of course, might provide some respite. Chicago is 29th in net yards allowed per passing attempt and 23rd in net yards allowed per rushing attempt. They are nothing if not agreeable to opposing offenses.

But the same goes for Atlanta, who is now 26th in points allowed per game despite playing one of the league's seven easiest schedules to date. And while the Bears offense doesn't rank too favorably overall, they have started perking up in recent weeks. Chicago is averaging 31 points over their past four games under the ascending hand of quarterback Justin Fields.

This invariably won't be enough to sway everyone. Especially after the Bears' Week 10 loss to the Lions. Fields made mistakes down the stretch and can still look overwhelmed when he's under pressure. Growing pains are understandable, but they can also be a bettor's worst nightmare. We, however, aren't worried. Fields has made a ton of progress in a short amount of time, and the Falcons defense is among the least threatening in the NFL. This is a game we think Chicago should win.

This Week 11 NFL Point Spread Easily Favors Chicago

Below you can see the latest NFL point spread betting odds for Bears vs. Falcons:

  • Atlanta Falcons, -3 (-110)
  • Chicago Bears, +3 (-110)

There is no decision for us to make here, since we believe the Bears will win.

That said, if you're on the fence, consider this: Chicago has been outscored by more than five points just once over their last five games. Even if they wind up losing this one, there's a chance they bring it to the final seconds in a close contest—just like they did in their letdown versus the Lions in Week 10.

Look into Betting the Over for Bears vs. Falcons

Here are latest NFL over/under betting odds for Falcons vs. Bears:

  • Over 49.5 (-110)
  • Under 49.5 (-110)

The Bears, like we already mentioned, have been a 30-point machine over the past month or so. And given how porous Atlanta's defense has become, we're confident they'll stay that way in Week 11, even if they're on the road.

The Falcons' side of the coin is trickier. They have scored 17 and 15 points, respectively, over their last two games. And Marcus Mariota hasn't looked good. But the Falcons have for the most part scored with ease at home.

We're cautiously investing in the over—mostly because even if the Falcons turn in another clunker, there's a strong chance Chicago's offense propels this game over 50 points anyway.

OSB Prediction: Over 49.5
