Chiefs favored in Arrowhead

Kansas City is a 2.5-point home favorite on Sunday night. The Chiefs jumped out to a 14-0 lead against Jacksonville in Monday night's 31-28 loss. Patrick Mahomes threw for 318 yards, a touchdown and an interception while adding 60 yards and a score on the ground. Kareem Hunt also added 49 yards and 2 TDs.

Lions roaring on offense

Jared Goff passed for 258 yards and three touchdowns in a 37-24 victory over the Bengals on Sunday. Everyone but Jameson Williams got involved on offense in Week 5. David Montgomery ran for a TD and threw another to tight end Sam LaPorta, who finished with 89 receiving yards and a TD. Jahmyr Gibbs combined for 87 total yards and a score and Amon Ra St. Brown hauled in 8 receptions for 100 yards.

While Goff is known to struggle in outdoor environments like Arrowhead Stadium, the Chiefs defense is a middle of the pack operation this year, allowing opponents to score 21.4 points per game.

Unfamiliar opponents

Despite both clubs being atop the NFL for the past couple seasons, this is only the second meeting between the Chiefs and Lions in the Dan Campbell era. The first happened when Detroit upset Kansas City 21-20 in the 2023 season opener.

While many worried about the Lions losing their offensive and defensive coordinators in the offseason, both units look no worse for wear. The offense is on a record-breaking pace and the defense is thriving under first-year coordinator Kelvin Sheppard as former DC Aaron Glenn flames out in New York.
