2022 NFL Thanksgiving Day Picks: Are the Dallas Cowboys on Upset Alert vs. New York Giants?

Reality is beginning to set in for the New York Giants ahead of their Thanksgiving day matchup against the Dallas Cowboys: They might be the shakiest 7-3 NFL team in recent memory.

All the best online NFL betting sites are starting to take notice, too. After a couple of weeks in which they billed the Giants as favorites, they have reverted back to declaring them heavy underdogs for their Week 12 dalliance versus Dallas, who also checks in at 7-3. Is this the smart move? Or does New York offer more betting value than meets the eye? We're about to find out.

But first, here's a look at the latest NFL online betting odds for Cowboys vs. Giants, courtesy of the fine folks over at BetOnline

Enough chitchat, though. Let's get to our Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Giants predictions, which will cover the outright winner, best point spread bet and our over/under picks!

Oddsmakers are Too High on the Dallas Cowboys, but that Doesn't Mean the New York Giants have Another Upset in them

The Giants showed themselves to be ultra-vulnerable in their loss to the Lions, but this is a bit out of hand. Supreme risk-takers can and should take a long look at their +315 payout. The defense has been stellar all year and routinely taken opposing offenses out of their element.

When New York and Dallas first met, in fact, the Cowboys picked up a victory by a touchdown. And that was before the Giants added some additional passing plays into the repertoire of Daniel Jones.

This isn't to imply we think the Giants will win. We don't. The Cowboys are averaging over 39 points through their past three games, and their defense just held a very talented Minnesota Vikings squad to three points during a Week 11 shellacking.

New York's pass rush should be able to frustrate Dak Prescott and get to running back Ezekiel Elliott. We wouldn't predict another 40-point outing for the Cowboys, like they've had in two of the past three weeks. But Dallas' defense has quietly worked their way all the way up to first allowed in points per game, and they have a talented pass rush of their own. They don't need to score a trillion points to take down a Giants squad that continues to lack offensive firepower outside of star running back Saquon Barkley.

Trust the Giants to Keep Their Week 12 Showdown with the Cowboys Relatively Close

Here are the latest NFL point spread betting odds for Cowboys vs. Giants in Week 12:

  • Dallas Cowboys, -8.5 (-114)
  • New York Giants, +8.5 (-106)

This point spread feels a little steep if you're looking to wager on the Cowboys. Most of the Giants' games this season have been determined by a touchdown or less, and the Cowboys don't protect the ball nearly enough through the air to make us think they'll neutralize New York's defense.

Granted, there's a little risk caked in here. If the Cowboys get up by 10 or more points early, the Giants don't have the passing attack to bridge that gap.

Still, New York's defense is legit. The 31 points they let up against the Lions in Week 11 was the first time all year they surrendered more than 27. They should be able to keep the game without striking distance unless the offense is completely off its rocker.

OSB Prediction: New York Giants, +8.5 (-106)

The Under for Cowboys vs. Giants Looks Extremely Appealing

Below you can find the latest NFL over/under betting odds for Cowboys vs. Giants in Week 12:

  • Over 44.5 (-112)
  • Under 44.5 (-108)

If you believe the Cowboys are going to churn out another 40-point detonation, then this isn't much of a decision for you. But we don't think they'll get there. We don't even think they'll sniff 30 points. We have that much faith in the Giants' defensive pressure.

Let's also not forget a majority of New York's games have tilted toward the under. By their standards, this 44.5-point benchmark is gargantuan. Only two of the Giants' previous eight games have turned in a combined score above 44 points.

Frankly, we don't think Dallas' passing attack is consistent enough to hold up their end of the bargain in this one. Expect at least one of these teams to score fewer than 21 points.

OSB Prediction: Under 44.5 (-108)
